  1. Yer picking up some serious Dwayner slack there Segal, quite impressive effort, but try and be nicer will ya? ps, thanks Muff!
  2. When is all this stuff with the "Mt Hood Birds", these new vultures, gonna end? _______________________________________________________ "Jemima Brown: Is this hotel always so crowded? Dr. Jonathan Hemlock: Only when there's a climb. Then the Eiger birds start flocking in. Jemima Brown: Eiger birds? Dr. Jonathan Hemlock: Yeah, jet setters, assorted zombies, come here to watch a climb. If they're lucky, they get to see a man die on the mountain. Jemima Brown: That's grim. Dr. Jonathan Hemlock: So's the Eiger. " From "The Eiger Sanction".
  3. OMG Ivan: Don't make us pay for the video damnit!
  4. Way to pay attention and listen to your guts. I remember one time doing WyEast in similar conditions, and thinking that the Avy danger was way off the hook up there, but wanting to climb so bad I did it anyway and convinced the dude I was with to follow me up the damn thing. I'm high on the route thinking "this is stupid", and wondering how far the slide would take us (it's a long friggan way down from up there), but really, really enjoying the climbing and the day at the same time. We summit. I get down and bump into my old buddy John Petrosky and his dad in the lodge. The father was one of the most experienced mountain folks out there at the time. John quietly says that they'd bailed on doing Leuthods cause his Dad thought the avy danger was too high. I felt shame. Really felt stupid. I knew better and just got lucky. Love your pics! Oleg, you and Ivan tell a good story.
  5. Bad Ivan. (insert old person finger wag here) I had seen his request and didn't answer it the first go round cause I hadn't been up there for a while and thought guys like yourself would give better advice. It was strange to go back and read that thread after the search started. It is stunning how much responsibility we really have. As far as having the goverment show up to rescue us, I say PISS ON THEM. You dudes want them to rescue you, then EXPECT them to be able to say how they want the terms and conditions of you (and me) getting out and getting on it. Like when and where you can or cannot go. They operate hand in hand. The reason that the military got involved a long time ago, is they thought that it would be good training. So maybe WE should be charging THEM for the help. PMR and other volenter organizations RULE. DON'T GIVE UP YOUR FREEDOMS!
  6. Nah, yah gotta turn him loose and let him run, it's in his nature. Like to see the Hound again, as I can belay up to, and am certified for 5.13, I'm good to go if all that ice work has made him strong! Fer Sure! BTW, Ms Kennedy was a nice addition to the usual crusty old salts you normally are dragging along.
  7. Trying to think how that might play out: "Damnit: I've had these shoes for 3 years and one has developed a serious hole in the sole. I want my money back."
  8. Nice pic of Hood. Played hookey today to get some runs in with the pup. Pup is almost faster than me now, he's growing up fast. Might have to spring for some pure downhill racing boards strictly to keep up. Great day in some respects - to be skiing on the Mt anyway....., not in others...I sat on the lift and saw the Sherrifs Piper Cub circling Hood when the upper lift stopped working for 15-20 min. "Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry." Nice pics JF. You pulling plastic Thursday at Milf?
  9. Dru, Choda boy says cameras not tilted now.
  10. Was it the Aliens with the dot? Those will have the heads fall off of them.

Huh? Use to? I'm not sure what happened between you guys, but I'd like to thank you for keeping it quiet, personal, and between you.

  14. Those guys were a lot closer to the truth anyway Landshark. More entertaining as well. ____________________________________________________________ plumber ......Who? 15. I'm working on it.
  16. Damn it's nice to see someone else getting on something! I think the rest of the board is going stir crazy either worrying about the climbers on Mt Hood, or all the shitheads showing up with 1 or 2 posts which are unbeliveably stupid and or arrogant. BTW, in keeping with the boards current groove and attitude: you misspelled Phat, asshole. ie.
  17. After this entire media circus have you not learned this 1 irrefutable fact: ie, that the media will use whatever you send them to back up what they have already decided to print. They have a slant and will use your stuff to support it. So my thoughts are thusly: FUCK THEM
  18. Only speaking for myself, I've found Decristos posts amazingly creative and interesting, (with an exception or 2), keep it coming Decristo. BTW MattP, all of us feel horrible and bad about the events on the Mt. Some of the posters are up there helping. I want to state it openly and right now, like Ivan said: when I'm toes up, and it comes soon enough for us all, you pricks better be drinking and telling interesting stories about me. I'm fine with the tears, but there better be some tears of joy too or I'm sending that Seagal poster down (OK, or up here, in his case) to kick some ass. It's not about those 2 left on the Mt, I'm not telling the relatives how to handle that kind of pain, it's about ME. Life is an eyeblink for us all.
  19. You must have caught the new O'Reilley show "Extra Spin". In it, O'Reilley advocates not having "Americans of African descent" people in the country as they cost us so much. He then proceeds to detail how New Orleans - which was made up predominantly of "Americans of African descent" people, cost us so much money in the recent Katrina debacle, which, O'Reilley claims, cost the rest of us $200 Billion dollars. Hard to argue with a guy who's head is so far up his ass that his voice is muffled, better to just shut down everything. Next on the "Extra Spin" hit list: Hiking, recreational driving, vacations, Snowmobiling, walking around town without a purpose, browsing bookstores and Mt Biking. After all, if they can keep the public off of public property, ie that which WE the users already OWN, if they can keep us off what is ours by ownership: then they are better able to control us. Of course, there would have to be a massive new gov't department to head this up to determine what should be closed to hikers and climbers and when, then to conduct security and enforcement on the Mt's, and that won't be cheap either. Hey, it's only money eh?
  20. My roomate was just on my computer, anything interesting been happening?
  21. Whoa dude, lighten up. ________________________________________
  22. OMG, is that a "compliment"?!! Dear lord, what did ya do to Dwayner? well you were brilliant even dwayner has to admit to brilliance when he reads it OMG Beers on me next time Muff!
  23. Posted on page 15 and brought forward. Best post in quite a while babachu, thanks for the reminder. We all can understand the extreme pain that the family is in. However, we climbers realize that all of us will die all too soon. Too many of us involved in these kind of active sports, by our own hand. We only get one shot at life, and these guys were doing it. We have no choice as for us it is only to live life to the hilt. We are reminded of our mortality all too frequently, sadly like when brothers like these are not with us any longer. For those of us with memories of nearly biting the big one via hypothermia, it may be one of the very best ways to go, almost a pleasant experience as both the cold and any memory of cold or suffering slides away, leaving you in a very pleasant stupor. Whatever else you can say for these guys, certainly they went down like brothers we would all like to have climbed with: taking care of the injured man and ensuring his (relative) safety, like true climbers. Like brothers. Considering the unimaginable crazy weather that these men must have been battling against with all of their lives and might....it had to be a story we will never know of stoic, quiet, desparate heroism and fight. Bless them all.
  24. Wow, you nailed one, street cred improvement for wet-spotter! Nice call Dru. Heres another painful one to avoid: The Todd Skinner corporation improvement book called "Beyond the Summit: Setting and Surpassing Extraordinary Business Goals". Love Todd, but hate the book until the end where he finally puts some focus on the climb of the Tower. Until then, it seemed like a cheap imitation of Jerzy Kosinkis great novel "Being there" with Todd playing Chance the Gardner.
  25. Powderhound is back in town, and has freetime in case anyone wants to hook up with some high quality weekday company.
