Hmmmmmmmmm, Iain: that leaves,........maybe 90 percent of the SAR missions for what....political retreats? The Kims of course were the othere 3.6 percent I suspect. _______________________________________________________________ BTW, CUINOZ - I've done my share of wandering around in the strangest of damn places in the shittest of conditions looking for idiots/friends and various other folks. Maybe you have as well. I'm not reveling in Sh*t here. Normally don't even post on these kinds of threads. Be aware: I'm happy for 2 things: 1st) That some of our brothers care enough to commit to being so available to run where ever they are requested to be to help our other brothers out (even brother dogs). 2) Specifically that these folks are OK. So what? _______________________________________________________________ Tomorrow it may be me (there but for the grace of God go I) It in no way changes my opinion. Nor should it ...eh? At all. Maybe it hardens it.

Hello, how come I'm the only one who is too stupid to figure that sentance out? BTW, the "illegal" thread is further down. This is an English as a first (not second) language 666. _________________________________________________-- Pagetop, I think the deal is, some people can't leave the bitch at home which explains how the dog was up there.

care to explain, o-verbose one? Hmmm, 10:30 am. Must have passed out. Since woken up with a hangover and doesn't remember any of this. That's my guess.

Hmmmmmm, maybe not when the wind is howling and pushing you off course, it's easy to say such things in the comfort and confines of our homes. I'm an ol fogey too. I was shocked to see how cavalier people in this area were concerning hitting the mountains on a marginal weekend. I always felt like the casual attitude towards safety and knowledge was a response to too much babysitting from the govemnment. Give everyone an MLU, these incidents will continue to happen and may even pick up. Withdraw all support (except volenters like PMR), let people make "What if" arrangments in advance - including the financial arrangements, and these issues and incidents will go down. Prepare to accept some deaths. My opinion only. Keep the gov't out of our business. If you want them to handle these issues, then they should get to tell you when you can go or cannot go and if they say you can, then they will get to tell you what the terms and conditions are: like carry an MLU, cellphone, GPS and pager and leave the weed at home. But I want them the F* out of MY life. I may die next weekend. I'm planning on hanging it out. Alone......... SO WHAT? Why should that be your business- or the govenments business? We all will die. Sometime. Life is choice. Live it. FREEDOOOMMMMMM!

________________________________________________________ You might reconsider your position. Once, years ago, I went up with my girlfriend and dog, camped on the edge of W.R. canyon, got up early to solo Wyeast (Told the dog to stay -left the sleeping wife and dog with the tent back in the dark). Looked back after a while, thought I saw the dog so I ducked down and sure enough it was her. Walked her back to the tent and said "stay", which always worked on this normally obeidient dog. She stayed till I was out of sight and then headed up to me again. (I was keep an eye out for her so didnt' get as far that time). Didn't take the dog that trip - feeling as you do. However, we did go out later and started working on various shorter, more manageble, things. That damn dog could consistantly get up 70-80 degree slopes. I never cut her tonails and she'd just crampon right in. She just friggan loved heading out with me, although I never worked up the courage to really test her skill on like a north side route. Later I'd heard that Peter Gayeskas dog had summited Hood about 25 times by various routes, and most of the other Cascade shield volcanoes as well. I always worried most about her eyes, but Gayeska never shielded his dogs eyes and it was fine. Dogs are awesome in the mountains.

No Dru, American cats don't have access to the vaunted Canadian public health care system. I'm sure Carolyn has already spent a bit more $ than the $10 it would take to just replace the cat. ......if that was the question.....

You are correct as always Cobra, but the real question remains: what color MLU will color co-ordinate best with the new Scholler coat ya just got at the REI sale the day before?

He is lucky to have a generous and understanding wife. I hope he has the time of his life. Sounds like fun, good luck with it all!

No shortage of sad tales, just under the climber story: "A 13-year old Eugene-area boy died Saturday afternoon in a skiing accident at Willamette Pass Resort ski area. The victim is identified as Nathan Daniel McBryde, a 7th grader enrolled at Cal Young Middle School. On February 17, 2007, McBryde traveled to the ski area with his mother reportedly as part of a Boy Scout outing. According to a witness, he was skiing downhill on a lower mountain intermediate run when he attempted to turn and travel across the hill. McBryde lost control and struck the root ball of a downed tree, receiving multiple injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding medical personnel. An Oregon State Police trooper from the Gilchrist work site responded to the ski area to gather information. Assistance at the scene given by members of the Willamette Pass Ski Patrol and Crescent EMS. Air Life air ambulance reportedly also responded to the scene to assist."

Hmmm, still has both on the site right now: top story says: "BREAKING NEWS Five climbers that were part of an eight-member climbing party have been located and are being brought down Mount Hood. Three members of the party remain missing after falling off a ledge. Also, rescuers are now saying that a couple reported lost on the mountain was a mistaken report. ? Bottom one says: "Two rescues under way on Mount Hood, total of ten climbers in trouble One of the rescue operations is an effort to reach an eight-person climbing party, three of whom fell off a ledge, and the other is to find a man and a woman who activated their locator units and made a 911 call saying they were lost." ___________________________________________________________ Pointing out only that it's better to jump on it fast and figure out if it is really really true or did happen sometime later.

I need more information on this "summit gift certificate" phenomenon. There are a couple summits that've been eluding me lately...i'd like to cash in one. _______________________________________________________ too funny! I think that it would be relatively stealthy if you do the hiking in the gorge thing Cobra mentions, and have him carry the gear/water/clothes/flashlights and the other 3 essentials, like the chocolate....he'll get there. Also, if you have dogs, start walking them up trails like Balch Creek (assuming you live near PDX) over off 26th and Upshur after work. Maybe join friends of Forest Park and pull some Ivy, that's pretty brutal too. Maybe you have some local trails near you. Of course, have him carry a packpack with the rain gear, water, flashlights, 15 lb weight, etc etc. ________________________________________________________ Afterthought: I have to say thought, that your gift is pretty committing. If it was me, I'd want to know in advance. Like just tell him now that you bought it as an aniversery gift so he can get fired up, and not just to train, but learn something about climbing before hand as well. Good luck.

I was sitting on a couch next to Kev last night. I'll tell you all that every damn one of you would like this guy if you met him. He's straight up. I think what we all see sometimes, is that people have an "Online" persona, and then we have what we are in person. Sometimes they are radically different. It's true of Bone. Of course, Oly, Chaps and G can tell you that some of us have multiple "Online" persona's. Some those are distinctly different from each other, much like Cyblle with multiple personalities, although it's interesting to see them argueing with (themselves) each other, despite being the same person with only different Avatars. Anyway, most the time the written word is a poor subsitite for the spoken work since you miss the eybrow raise and smirk which usually accompanies the humor. I don't see wankers or chuffers, just different people with different ideas and styles. Some of the sh* t that goes on here is funnier and more engaging than a room full of monkees tossing sh*t at each other. So keep up the good work, everybody post more climbing pics, and treat each other with the respect we would give each other in person. And Dechristo stays: he's funnier than hell sometimes and who wants Mark Wilford to come around and kick their ass with an ice tool anyway? (Decristo you Name dropper) I'm off to make some turns now. Keep up the good work all.

78 daze pulling plastic = 3 pitches on WI. I've got 12 days in skiing so far. My personal best was last year at 26. As the kids get older and out of the house, it gets easier. When Ujahn was in shape last year, I noted that there was several days of AM skiing then rockclimbing which ROCKED! This year, he's so busy running his business that in a few hours we're both pwned and only want to look at rocks and have a cush Lunch/dinner at Skamania Lodge afterwards. We're such pussies. Powderhound- good on ya for getting it while you are young. You too John, you guys seem to sandwich it in between the other important stuff and I have a lot of respect for you both (and some of you others doing it too) for getting on it. Keith = Go get it buddy, most of us will be living vicariously through you and E this year fom our cubicals:-) Take care all Bill

No way: funny, especially the extra large size being labeled "Cougar". I don't believe you folks don't get paid for all this stuff.
