I sometimes think back to my college days, where my Poli-Sci prof would hold class in Sams Hoffbrau on ocasion when he was thirsty and not in the classroom and quaff 3 or 4 frothy pints much to the wide-eyed wonderment of the many Arabs in the class, who refused to partake. I'll be sitting watching the gorgeous half naked dancers at a pro ball game and reflect on our deep cultural differences where if a woman did that back in their country, she would be brutalized by the system. Stoned, whipped and/or jailed as well. Does anyone here think that the Iranians, if they had a nuclear device, would NOT use it on Israel? Sometimes I wonder if the crap we think is not widely influenced by political PR flak to the Newspapers. Then I think of folks I've known who have lived in various Middle east countries and think that having, or allowing, a nuclear Iran would be a catastrophe in short order. Had the British or the French offed Hitler before the Czechoslovakia or Polish invasion....what would have been? What path would the world have taken, and how different it would be now. Is that what we are staring at right now?

Pierce County Sheriff spokesman Ed Troyer said a couple called 911 after returning home Monday evening to find their 26-year-old roommate angry and handling explosives. When deputies arrived at the house near the intersection of 160th Street and 70th Avenue East, the man ran upstairs with a duffel bag full of explosives and other bomb making materials. Troyer said the man began playing music loudly, and deputies backed away from the house. Within moments of the deputies' exit around midnight, the top floor of the house exploded. "He either accidentally or intentionally set the explosion off, which took the whole top floor off of the residence and engulfed the house in flames," Troyer said. Firefighters arrived but were not able to enter the house to attack the fire because of the fear that there may be more explosives inside. A bomb robot was used to check the charred remains of the house and nearby vehicles for bombs, but so far no more explosives have been found. Troyer said the bombs the man used were wrapped with glass, marbles and nails. It was not clear exactly what caused the man to become angry and detonate the explosives. Troyer said the man is presumed dead, but his body has not yet been found. Officials said he is a convicted sex offender, but his name has not been released. "He's had some issues with law enforcement over the years," Troyer said. "And actually, from what we're learning, had a rough week leading up to this... paranoid, changing locks and doing some strange stuff, according to witnesses." Sheriff's detectives and fire department investigators expected to remain at the scene for several hours."

This must have been a hell of a fall. Anyone been up there would have snaileye just thinking of it. Damn big fall, bet if the snow wasn't so fluffy and deep it would have been a fatality. Lucky (but stupid) fella there. When I was young, we would seek out cornices (with safe runouts) and bust them off as a group, just by jumping up and down in unison. It never ceased to amaze me that: A) The ride was always so thrilling. B) No one died getting rolled by a block of crusty snow.

My new neighbor worked for McCafee (the anti-virus - computer protector folks) one day I walk in and see the monkeys chattering as they're looking at the computer, I say " Whats up Monkeys?", Monkeys say "Nothin'" which translates to "we can't talk about it as it would seem improper to an elder person." I catch the drift and demand: "Come on, whats going on here?" Monkeys say they are downloading Animai from Japan and using the new neighbors connection as it's Cable and faster than our DSL. Trouble making Monkeys.

Check into getting cable for your phone carrier as part of an entire package. We didn't want it by itself due to cost, but with cable TV, internet and phone package: it was cheaper when compared to Verizon DSL and regular Qwest phone. (thats right, all 3 together were cheaper than just the 2 items we wanted and were already using). Now we have cable TV and it rules! Cable these days tends to be faster than DSL as well, they will tell you the speeds.

The margins on software made in China and sold in the US is HUGE! Shop the lil guy gear store is my opinion to help subsidise the actual gear. REI has Mt hardware throughout it's stores, or you can get that made in China stuff at Pattagucci, Eddie Bauer, REI, North Face and Nordstroms etc etc. BTW, truth in advertising: my wife has scored, FOR ME AS GIFTS, 2 Mountain Hardware items recently (both *cough* cough* Made in China. A MH Scholler vest for $30 at Costco, and a MH Scholler Coat someplace online. She left the tag on the Costco item so I could return it if my mindset dictated. IT DID NOT, and I am wearing that vest today. Sometimes made in China, given for no reason with a little love and a happy memory, is irresistible:-) I have a personal aversion to try to not buy "Made in China", which I sometimes do anyway, that she doesn't share. So she buys me stuff which she thinks I'll like and she does it whenever she sees a sale. My last 5 or 6 coats (2 North Face and 1 Patagucci) all showed up in this manner. Ya just got to love a woman like that.
