Layton Kor was the badass of badasses for his era. If he had been around Warren Harding, the world as we know it may not exist. Luckily it was Pat Ament instead.

Stop in or call the guide shop in Mazama for the best info and buy a guidebook (probably Burdo's) and go in guns blazing rather than searching for bullets or shooting blanks. It is a great area and some prep will help a lot. As far as ivan's advice: start with WA Pass, then Mazama, then Leavenworth, then Vantage chasing good weather. If you flag there are several pubs on the way. But once you get to Vantage it is just your growler or PBR in "town". Google Spontaneity Arete for a moderate alpine 5.7 at WA Pass.

He deserves it. I was there a few years back when a young lady about his age was trying to send it but couldn't. Go Drew and congrats to mom and dad.

I have an idea for a book: 200 pages where every page says: EAT LESS AND EXERCISE. I'm sure it will be a best seller.

 Thanks for the info. Any video on this one?

There is plenty of cardio in proper crossfit. Any method is only as good as your dedication to it. The world is full of people who want it to be easy. Their expectations are low and they are easily met.

As you know, ivan, kind soul that he is, never says or does anything controversial. Or be expressive. And I must point out to ivan that after being suspicious about the Smith Rocks bolting post date, take a look at your own post date. Fortunately you have extensive photo evidence for corroboration. -
ivan knowz bullshit So does Ian. That's kinda why he is the mayor of Smith. Nobody since Watts has more knowledge of the Park and what should happen with it. and ivan being the mayor of bullshit ivan is the mayor of so many places he should have his own country.
-
Does that make him judge and jurry all in one? Yes! Along with a long list of developers and Park helpers, almost all of whom he knows. If you don't like that try Ryan Cafferky who has done an amazing job keeping the Park up to snuff. Last word is talk to the locals who have lived, eaten, and breathed tuff for many years.

I admire your effort and hoped you enjoyed it. The Enchantments are amazing. But Croft summited multiple peaks free solo climbing (see earlier threads but included N. Ridge of Stuart, Dragontail, and Prusik) and should we could all aspire to the same but few will.

I spent a couple weeks unable to straighten my finger a "few" years back. Attempting to flex, hot/cold, meditation, astrology, rest, splints, tape, etc. didn't fix it. Luckily it wasn't my middle finger. One shot of cortisone solved it. For real.

I am sure the mayor of Smith is quite good at sniffing out BS and giving adivice.

Good thing they weren't dirty bombs or things would have been much worse.

Again, no pics but after getting my license back (1 yr. suspension: don't ask) I now have a '92 Camry with 200K miles. And while some SUVs and late model sedans may pass me on the way to the trailhead, I will pass them on the trail. It's not eye candy or trying to make an impression, it's point A to point B to get to what is important. -
Yes, we natives (meaning nobody since we all came here across the Bering Strait or sailed in or rode horses from Mexico) made a great deal for Alaska but we all appreciate a great TR with excellent pics from folks riding the ice.

I live 10 blocks from Greg's headquarters. This is not like "A Million Little Pieces" where the whole thing was made up but more like "50 Shades of Grey" without the sex. Some true, some false, some good, some bad. It is the K2 of financing that is the real crux. Separating charity from personal finance was a deep crevasse he is still trying to get out of. JK on Mormons could be a crevasse just as deep.

It seems like Harding WAS the archenemy of tradition so this guy sounds very interesting.

Thanks for the TR and yes part of the fun of Josh is going from area to area and enjoying the exploration in a beautiful area.

Message from the one who has unleashed the hounds of the creativity of posters. All kidding aside we all enjoy your posts and TRs and if any of us don't Keep it up. -
Straight or serrated? Serrated seems good for fruit at home but straight seems good for climbing ware. And the site ad just below is for cremation planning so I am getting a bit squeamish about knives right now.
-
What pisses me off is fixed anchors that won't last, bolts that won't last, old nylon that definitely won't last, chains with links that don't accept biners, and etc. As mikey says, these things are important to developers and folks interested in keeping things up. No comment on knives as mikey knows best but we all need to be more responsible taking care of our rock.
-
It is a real problem to have fixed gear of any kind that won't get stolen or abused or be good to begin with. Keep gathering info.
-
Every trad and alpine climber should have a knife for fixed tat and other situations and should have fresh nylon for replacing. Knives last forever if high quality. Go for clean blade (not serrated) and short for climbing. For hardware, many on this site know a lot but my opinion is it needs to be climbing grade and not construction grade. You will get other inputs I am sure.

Didn't you hear that they have changed the name to the Seattle Mediocres? I had to move away just because of sports. Seahawks are coming on a bit but we lost the Sonics to OK where they are championship caliber and don't even have an NHL team while Cali and Florida do and we are right next to Canada! Sheesh.
