  1. My indestructible french press and Cafe Vita coffee go in the bc with me every time. Heck, I usually haul it (and a stove) to the summit of Mt. Reindeer for a quick pick-me-up before heading down. edit: oh yeah, it helps with regularity when brewed good and strong. Plus the coffee grounds added to a blue bag help mellow out the stink a bit. 2. I agree with Lambone and his reference. That's the cleanest way I've seen this done. I've seen guides stack 3 or 4 clients at the top of a climb this way, do the rap first, and 'belay' from below (using the fireman's/boyscout belay method). The clients don't have to mess with a single thing after the guide checks them out and departs the ledge.
  3. since I double posted, I'll find some content: Hey lambone. I don't like your new avatar nearly as much as the old one. Too bad that other guy snaffled it. I like these better..... [ 10-18-2002, 05:25 PM: Message edited by: Thinker ]
  4. I'm glad to see he's got a full body harness on. too bad nobody cares enough to put a helmet on him, too.
  5. quote: Originally posted by Dru: I read in Sci American a few months back a piece on circadian rhythms which points out that the human body is primed to defecate at the equivalent of 8 AM every morning so maybe the coffee thing is a coincidence. I've tested the theory, albeit unintentionally. No coffee....no movement. I have substituted a good chew on several occasions when bc conditions have made my bod a little less than cooperative and the coffee isn't doing the trick...works like a charm if you can stand the nausea. 6. It's also a recipe for ratings. sadly, the real question is, does the financial risk outweigh the potential gain for the producers and the network?

(of course I was severely lagging behind on a behemoth of a mountain bike and eventually gave up and went to the bar) [ 10-18-2002, 08:36 AM: Message edited by: Thinker ]
  9. Actually closer to Issaquah. Has anyone climbed at the little roadside crag off SR900?

Dustin, I have no clue who you are, nor do I care, you little wanker. Before you call me a hoser and a dumbshit again, you may care to review the thread. But wait, since you were unable to comprehend it originally, you may not be able to sort it out without a little help....so here it is: You (Dustin) originally wrote: quote: Oh, so what is Oklahoma known for if it such a great state? Please. No other state comes close to being as gnarly and badass as Texas. Like the license plates says, "Oklahoma is OK". Texas rocks. All you Sooners can suck my ass. [/QB] I responded: quote: what ever, at least the engineering students at the Oklahoma universities don't kill masses of their fellow students with their drunken revelries around burning stacks of hundreds of telephone poles haphazardly stacked 4 stories high (as has been done in recent times in Texas).Your subsequent (redirected) attack was: quote: Aggies and Longhorns are not mascots of the same college dumbshit. Texas A&M (Aggies, College Station, TX) is where the bon fire collasped. Austin (UT, Longhorns) rocks. You'd know that if you'd ever been there. College Station sucks and you'd know that if you'd ever been there too. Get your facts straight before you spray, hoser.[/QB]I care not if you choose to differentiate between various subspecies of Texans (i.e. Longhorns, Aggies, Bears, or even GW.) The point is TEXANS built the faulty structure and killed their own kind. My point still stands. (Sure, Oklahomans can drive off damaged bridges into raging rivers to their deaths, but at least they're not taking innocent people with them, nor are they putting their backwards goober-speaking governor in the whitehouse.)
  13. quote: Originally posted by fern: pack the bottle upside down so the bottom freezes rather than the top? This technique works well for me while I'm actually climbing, that way the ice rings form near the bottom of the bottle. When at camp, sleep with a water bottle, or bury it in 6" to a foot of snow...it will not freeze when buried (at least in the Cascades) due to the snow's insulating properties. I've actually climbed with Pat a few times. He's a gnarly old mountain goat.
  20. I was just up there. There's a great (new) guidebook available at Mtn Gear in Spokane that covers Marcus, China Bend, Post Falls, Metaline Falls, and a few other areas. You can clip granite, limestone, and some other chossy stuff if you please. I scoped out Marcus and Post Falls. here's the link to the book: web page [ 10-16-2002, 04:28 PM: Message edited by: Thinker ]

  22. and how many mounties did you encounter?
  23. 520 is not too bad heading east during rush hour. I regularly leave DT Seattle between 4 and 6 pm and make it to the Celtic Bayou area witin 25 to 30 minutes....it takes 20 minutes at 3 am.
  24. appeared to be pick-up style and had a 'cab height' canvas cover over the bed. fuel type unknown.
  25. I ran across this while galavanting across the Inland NW region: 1963 Unimog FS. 31k miles, $9,000. 406-544-2398 I saw it parked outside a gear shop in CDA, ID. It looked like it was in really good shape. The phone number is a Montana area code. It's not mine, I don't know much else about it. Call the number if you want more info.
