  1. Basically you're saying that they didn't a priori identify that the snow was going to avalanche. Well duh.
  2. Ummm... So how will we know which one is yours?
  3. Hey Tex, I'm a little slow. What do you mean by this?
  4. And also there is the Friends of the NW Weather and Avalanche Center. . Time to pony up a little membership money. The day's avalanche report is posted at, what, 8:30 each morning. How many folks wait till then to read it before heading out?
  5. Hey Tex, I'm a little slow. Can you elaborate on the meaning of your post?
  6. This is second hand info: The tv news report from last night quoted the two members of the second party as saying that two members of the Mounties party were below, three were skiing in the middle, and two were above. The top two of the Mounties party above triggered the slide. I don't think all were caught up in the avalanche. Best wishes to the survivors and the families and friends. (Edit: Turns out one of the survivors is a friend.)
  7. I recently bought a new HP laptop at Best Buys. Works fine. There are a lot of good deals in the $1000 range. Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. Check the ads. I've only heard bad experiences buying reconditioned computers.

  11. Just bolt the damn thing and get it over with.
  12. Maybe the next design should have a microfibre or laminate cover. [ 10-25-2002, 11:08 AM: Message edited by: Attitude ]

  17. quote: Originally posted by Lambone: I'm curious what others think because I'm trying to decide between a down coat with a Laminate or one with microfiber. Whats your take? Which is more important, breathability, weight, stuffability, waterproofness??? I want to use the coat for everything, summer trips paired with a suffer bag to ice climbing belays. If it's not raining, then I would think that high breathability is important so that the down stays dry from sweat. If it is raining, then you can always layer your rain shell on top. Of course, this may be too warm for +32 F weather. My limited experience is that keeping clothing dry is the most important factor in staying warm. Interesting topic.

  20. quote: Originally posted by Courtenay: Yup, squats and their infinite variations, IF DONE PROPERLY, and hamstring exercises like stiff-legged deadlifts, Romanian deadlifts, leg curls (this is the one nearly everyone is already familiar with; for imbalances, try doing these as 1-leg curls and make sure the legs are of even or comparable strength), glute ham raises, good mornings, back extensions, etc. etc. etc. Bikes are a great tool for performing these exercises. If done properly, of course. [ 10-17-2002, 03:38 PM: Message edited by: Attitude ]

  23. Accidents has been at REI for a month or so. Does anyone know the time frame that each book covers? It's not calendar year (Jan - Dec), since one of this year's incidents is in the new book. [ 10-16-2002, 04:39 PM: Message edited by: Attitude ]
  24. When finding shoes in the wilderness, one must check to see if the feet are still inside.
  25. Here's a TR involving scrambling. Maybe this will help settle the issue.
