That is your belief...it is my belief he's plummeting from a dynamic move from a good ways out...a double
-
Perhaps I misinterpreted your statement? But i don't think so...I will try to find the thread... concede that you don't know why he is so far out from the wall... and we'll call it even...
-
Sheesh..what a "sporto"?!?! quite the receding hairline though..! extra testosterone...that's what i tell my wife...she laughs at me...
-
My point is no one "jumps" out on purpose on any route just for the hell of it...whether they are a sport or trad climber...and i'd launch out over a cam or super well set nut if there was ledging-out possibility...just tell my belayer, keep it freaking loose so you don't load the gear until you are way way under it...additionally, for Matt, jumping out on overhangs only increases the slam into the wall...so that is obviously counterintuitive to the statement that "overhang sport climbers jump out"...have you climbed a lot of overhangs??? YOU used the original post to slam sport climbers, why, i don't know...i stated that all of the sport climbers (who actually just climb, period) that i know don't just jump out... And for muffy, jumping out on anything less than vertical? Never seen that before either... I'm done w/ this argument...don't jump out unless you are gonna slap something and then do it right...
-
Yo...me, my fat arse, my wife and her skinny arse, and two kids will be there next w/e...
-
HA HA HA...check out the "quickdraw" hanging from his harness?? Where's he gonna clip that too??? Sheesh..what a "sporto"?!?!
-
what context? do you see a ledge? if he was dynoing, wouldn't he have more rope out? i dont know why you care so much, i just pointed out to a climber new to the sport something to think about. sheesh. nothin to shit a brick over lad. Who's shitting a brick? You posted this...i never said it was a good idea to jump out...i just said "sport" climbers don't jump out... You have no idea how much rope was INITIALLY out, do you? did his belayer pull a Mattp and yank in rope? Did rope fall back through the qd? Did he already drop far enough to begin reeling the rope back through the qd? You don't know and the danube is runout as all hell...so he could have pitched a good 4 meters or more out...You have no clue as to where he initially launched from, as well as whether a dynamic move was the start of his fall, or whether he was laying directly out on a tufa or a flake (this would cause a straight out initial launch)... I guarantee you that guy didn't jump out...and if he did he had a routespecific reason...There are pictures of that guy climbing 5.12 offwidths and hard cracks...he knows what he's doing...
-
how do you know he wasn't dynoing??? I've never seen me or my friends jumping out from a wall at any place in the world...that is totally stupid...The only route i've ever "jumped out" on was at index so i didn't splatter a ledge/spike... W/o knowing the context that picture was taken in, you can't use it to support your claim...and as a side point, you are using it to support a false claim...any of your buddies that sport climb jump out??
-
FWIW...i've never seen solid 5.12 or 5.13 climbers "jumping" out from a wall...that is something a beginner does...There is flatout no need to hurl oneself out from the wall...particularly from an overhanging route...additionally, a failed dyno out an overhang may create the illusion of jumping out, when in fact it was just a failure to latch a hold... This is a stupid posting...if you saw some "sporto" jumping out, he/she obviously didn't know what they were doing...
-
Fence...you are assuming that the amount of rope shown will yield the location of where he dropped from...I'd add a good 10 feet (at least a body length and a half) to where he peeled from...
-
Not true matt...no one i know deliberately jumps out...that is a limestone route, and my guess is that it overhangs 20 degrees or more at the rating posted...
-
Scott...Iain is right...this route is steep...he didn't "jump" out...that is his natural flight path...
-
Got you to 5.12 or held you to 5.12? Just kiddin'!
-
Put the route you are talking about in the RC forum... HEY! I didn't start the thread...
-
That's basically the idea i that i was thinking with...
-
I think i can get another 2" of range out of that wc friend... What route?
-
I think it would be more than secure enough...two pieces that were sandwiched thru the holes would put them into shear...talking to Mr. Radon right now...(and Fern also)...this would be a good alternative to modify a readily available cam... Now, who gets to "test" it???? HAHAHAHA
-
Shims would be through-bolted to the cam lobes, maybe w/ sumpin' like a recessed hex head? You would essentially have a larger sized cam...
-
Yo...what do you think of that shimming idea?
-
Hey...I have that huge wc friend...I've considered having shims milled to bolt through the lightening holes to expand its range...Just got to find a CNC machine...Whatcha think of that? Don't need the extra size, leave them on the ground...
-
I think those Valley Giants are out of stock right now...at least his website is listing them as out of stock...Lemme know if you can get ahold of one...
-
That's it...the bible

Michael Colgan...Optimum Sports Nutrition... Only problem, is that if you follow his recommendations, you're talking about shelling out $500 a month on stuff...

Dru...you ever post anything remotely serious? ever?
