  1. I'm pretty sure a recent TR asserts that route is in the Olympics.
  2. I should have put one of the jokey faces next to my routefinding comment, as it wasn't serious, but the guidebook description does not remind me of what I climbed on the same formation, and I was left with the feeling that, "hey, I'd do this again." Makes me curious to go back and see if I can figure out what we did. Seems like I've heard someone else's tale of hairy times on the route you did. You are probably right about the Olympics in general being best as a class 3 mountaineering range.
  3. Yeah, I'm thinking maybe you should go back to routefinding school? I must have climbed an entirely different line on this buttress in 1988: no bolt, no scary runouts, no rockfall, solid rock, no rappels, and a happy day in mountain boots as a party of three. Perhaps we started farther right? It must have been an easier line, because we did have a goat follow us up the first couple pitches. Maybe one should just discard the guidebook and look for the reasonable line instead. I recall one bit of slick 5.7 between a couple towers, and using something like a #4 friend more than tiny wireds.
  4. On several occasions I've seen Barfly stickered and shelved with the comedies in the video rental store. You know, they're laughing on the cover, it must be a comedy.

    freakin' cheaters

I'm pretty sure that cheating is what the other guy does, not me.
  6. Yup, that's the north ridge.
  7. Dirty Harry said he chopped it, so I think that means it's pretty much just a troll...

    Men

Bstach isn't a douchebag, he's just not macking on the babes like the rest of you shallow emotionally unavailable one night stand guys. Not that there's anything wrong with that...
  9. "Tape is aid" is hardly original to this site, we were infected with a meme from elsewhere. I know Dick Cilley spouted this pithy observation well over 20 years ago, long before Al Gore invented the Internet.
  10. Yes, take the way through Adin. It also takes you along the shores of a good lake, and over a neat little pass south of Adin. Adin itself is a cute little burg. Shorter than the Alturas route also. This is definitely my favorite route down to the Sierras.
  11. Actually, this is quite new. Place has kind of gone to hell recently. And I mean recently. Bug is right. Spray belongs in spray. The Newbie forum has usually stayed pretty respectful and sprayfree. Okay, so no one has been paying attention here lately, but none of you happy campers have seen fit to notify any of the mods either. Newbies is supposed to be a Spray free zone. You're right though, that this place is not always really great for the fragile and painfully sincere to ask questions. In this thread it seems that folks are making fun in general, and not slamming the original poster (who, as noted, asked a rhetorical question). There's a real discussion hidden amongst the yucking it up, and since people are only rhetorically outraged at the Spray and not personally insulted or incensed, I'm going to leave this thread here where it may in fact answer a question someone has.
  12. That's as maybe, but you do realize that's Dan Rowan and Dick Martin along with Tiny Tim in a clip from Laugh In, don't you? C'mon, let's go to the party! MHK1HeqjMsg
  13. Well, I did everything except the music Friday night and the work on Monday, but the pleasure of the long weekend was offset by the disappearance of Blackjack, my big black cat.
  14. TR for Safe Sex (adjacent route) from almost a month ago: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/679950/page/2#Post679950
  15. Well fuckin' A Duke, if I'd have known you weren't all busy with holiday weekend stuff I'd have given you a shout to see if you wanted to come along. It's a small world after all.
  16. Yeah, this was a great day and a fun trip with a good partner. Here's a couple more pics: On the way up, heading up to the notch and onto a false summit, then on up to the summit block. On the descent, looking across the Hamma Hamma valley to Thorsen (Jefferson) and Pershing. Some of those routes looked like worthwhile early season jaunts as they played peek-a-boo with us. Visibility was really just fine, the cloud layers worked out well and we never got whited out. The burning orb made an occasional appearance, and sometimes you could just feel the solar radiation streaming through the higher murk layer. Warm day, lots of surface sluff action, that snow will be going away quickly.
  17. It'll be okay on Wednesday, just plan on starting and staying a little later. I think the only things that are wet are Floater (the 11b slab) and Dead Low Tide (the 10b undercling and corner).
  18. My daughter thought that movie was incredibly creepy and claims to this day that I scarred her for life my making her watch it. "Don't touch it Mum, it's evil!"
  19. That might be Bombshelter you're talking about.
  20. THE PLAN: Tonight: dinner out with wife's co-workers, out to see music later Tomorrow: something in the Olympics with Fairweather, objective not certain yet. Tomorrow night: friend's birthday party Sunday: local organic farmer's party with annual softball game Monday: work half a day, climb in my yard Monday night: go see The Hold Steady in Portland at the Crystal
  21. Doh! I meant to do that. link
  22. sheesh, I can't remember how to embed a youtube video.
  23. An 11 year old who killed two men is going to need a little counseling. I've been told that a shotgun is the business for home defense. I suspect playing a little pocket recorder with the sound of pump shotgun being racked would make an intruder scramble for the door.
  24. Perhaps it's the trapping of water that inevitably makes it's way past the seal that is the issue. The bolt would never dry out but essentially be perpetually submerged. Hey, maybe that jump start the galvanic corrosion and generate a noticeable current. How many wet siliconed bolt placements would have to be joined in series to power a Hilti? We should get Mark working on this ASAP, publish the study in the next AAJ.
  25. I believe it's "her." The bee guy who I had come out to salvage the red bumblebee nest that was established in our hay storage said only about one in ten starter wasp nests ever develop beyond the initial stage. I'd guess that big nest nearby has hit the major reproductive phase and is spinning off new queens. Sounds like you need to duct tape a sling to one of those wasp killer cans 'o poison and put it on your rack if you're going to spend much time at Broughton.
