  1. Fluffy: the devil cat of So. Ill.
  2. See, I'd have just left that title alone, helluva first post.
  3. I've done this on the right side, there's even a ring angle pin hidden in the rock that gets covered by the schrund, I imagined it was placed by Helmy Beckey. Problem is that when that bypass is needed, things have melted out more up high, and we had a discouraging volley of briefcases through the narrow throat that led me to climb some hideous stone on the right side of the neck. Not recommended.
  4. Lance, I very well recall the horror implicit in your original post. Nothing funny about it at all.
  5. I recently found that someone had posted old photos of mine in some of the climbing area stuff on RC.com, though they did have the good grace to credit me on one of them. I thought about commenting, but word on the street is that the guy is a bit of a psycho stalker, so I thought better. Thing is, if you post your stuff on the internet and it's not digitally watermarked or some such stuff, it sort of becomes community property. It's nice to get points for your work, but unless you're making money with it you don't have grounds for a substantial complaint. I have no idea who created my avatar pic, though I have become rather attached to it. I think the sloppy laissez-faire nature of this internet jive just makes for a richer more entertaining environment. At least Backpackerjoe wasn't trying to claim the image (itself a modification of someone's commerical work) as his own creation. I suspect Erik just doesn't like having his work linked with Walmart adoration. What was your original title for the thread E?
  6. Wait a minute, you're lobbying for increased mechanized travel in wilderness areas? That's what expanding mountain bikes on valley bottom trails constitutes. The road in Stehekin is a narrow corridor specifically excluded from wilderness designation in recognition of it's historic nature and the fact that it long predates the park. The question is one of maintenance of existing infrastructure, and I certainly never noticed any abuses or excessive wilderness use in the upper Stehekin valley as a result of that road back when it was in service. It does make a huge difference to the people who try to make a living in Stehekin though, one of the most unique towns in Washington.
  7. Darn, sorry I missed it, I just love a good display of ITG Syndrome.
  8. Well, at least MountainWanker's post is preserved (unmodified, I might add) through the magic of quoting. I don't think E is trolling, all that Supertaco "I am who I am" business is rubbing off on him, and he's just forthrightly stating his case.
  9. AK, Pink and Pink Chalk are different unconnected individuals. I added a clear warning to the first post, but agree that removing the link would gut the core of the conversation. Administrative decision, ya'll might as well move along and talk about the subject, rather than talk about talking about the subject. Muffy, you're a great parent.
  10. Oh, I just assumed that was you.
  11. Nice to see that Marylou hasn't lost her edge, even if she's applying it elsewhere. Bite me indeed.
  12. I noticed the other day that the Park Service says you can't even use bicycles on the road past High Bridge, what's with that nonsense? I think Fairweather's closing statement is an apt summary, I completely agree.
  13. Yeah, Saddam didn't gas the Kurds because of honor killings, my point was just that one should not fall into the trap of imagining there are white hats and black hats in the Iraqi internal conflict.
  14. I agree with you Seahawks, those televangelists have a truly dreadful agenda, and I shudder to think of them with nukes.
  15. Yeah Bill, I have a junk 1984 Vanagon I was going to offer up for real cheap, but I seem to have misunderstood as well. By "autobelay" do you mean those inertial reel widgets like they use on those portable climbing towers at State Fairs and such? I'm with Dru, I'd rather have a person with some training holding the other end of my cord.
  16. Will, fess up, was this you?
  17. Just goes to show that one would be mistaken to assume that the Kurds are the "good guys" of the three main sects in Iraq. That's pretty damned sick.

    Ron Paul

I think he's referring to Giuliani's oppressive "clean up Manhattan" pogrom. Ron Paul's an interesting one. I do love a politician who says what they think, not what an opinion poll tells them they ought to think. He's only nominally Republican, he's actually the most Libertarian US Senator out there. It would be great if he got some serious attention in the presidential race since he's likely to say plenty of things that aren't in either party's talking points.
  19. Just got done with a little after work climbing fun down here in Tenino. Wednesday is one of my favorite days of the week.
  20. Fairweather, Tvash is the one behind the camera in that pic you posted, so you're slinging insults at a non-combatant who doesn't spray.
  21. Kix, did you ever find that motherlode up on Tiger Mtn?
  22. I've seen people put "no trespassing" signs on public land before, there are several DNR roads in Tenino that people try to barricade or close. I usually just tell 'em to call the sheriff and we'll let them sort it out, but they never push the matter. Probably get myself shot some time...
  23. Old news, you just don't spend enough time with your old family here...
