Sorry old man (though I don't think you're any older than me), but Pink's in the right this time. Those guys rock, and the recent reunion tour was not the least bit lame.

Okay, so my reply may belong in the Cafe rather than here, but that makes you golden as a parent. For some kids, their thing is absolutely not going to be what turns your crank, so all you can do is support them to do whatever gets them jazzed. Even if it's skiing or baton twirling.

Pfft, as an entrepreneur with the requisite asset level I'm a welcome emigrant to Canada right now; I'm sure I could get a green card in the future People's Republic even if they draw the line right at the lower tip of the Puget Sound.
-
Dude, you are so outed as a total freshiez kinda guy, I don't ever want to hear you griping about skiing again.
-
Yeah, as you're thinking you need to listen to Wired again, I'm thinking I need to re-listen to that whole Alien disc, as tasty an instrumental rock album as I've ever heard.

If British Columbia and Washington were to jointly secede and form their own country, it would be my favorite nation in the world.

So now I'm looking at the actual list, as compared to just the cc.com spray excerpt. - Nice to see Martin Barre get a nod, Aqualung was a guitar hero of an album - Funny that Neil Young doesn't make an appearance until #39 for Cortez The Killer. While hardly the most technical fellow, his lines and sound are so signature and lyrical, you can't mistake him for anyone else. I'd plug Like A Hurricane or Tonight's the Night ahead of this cut, if only because the lyrics are so hysterically historically inaccurate. - Steve Howe, there's a prog rock trouper I've forgotten about, good song though as far as my mysteriously fuzzed out memory recalls - Clapton is the most overrated player on the planet. Consider the signature solo pieces on his best song Layla are by Allman on slide and whatever that guy was on piano, his most popular pieces Cocaine and I Shot The Sheriff are covers, and most of Mr Slowhand's work is readily replicated by third rate wannabes at blues jams across the country - Not necessarily the Hendrix cuts I'd have picked, but there's ample homage to the man, as with Stevie Ray. - Surfing with the Alien should get higher marks, it's such a propulsive lyrical line, speaks volumes with nary a word in sight. - Is Metallica really all that and a bag of nuts? I've always thought they were sort of boring, but Kirk Hammet sure gets a frisky BJ out of this list.

What a day, I find myself agreeing with Fairweather and Kevbone about Eric Johnson, and with KK about Jeff Beck. Heh, hands across the water, eh?

Your first sentence, "I lost my kid at stevens pass yesterday" sure gave my stomach a serious flip flop until I read on and realized it was only temporary, rather than more grevious and permanent. I'm glad it worked out, it gets better as they get older and you realize they've learned common sense and are able to formulate plan b on the fly. I'm sure you'll spend some time in debriefing, and next time he'll have a better sense of what to do, and you'll know better what to expect. First time I ever took my son alpine climbing on the N ridge of Stuart I warned him, "you know, if we die, I'm going to be in so much trouble." Seriously though, I understand your reaction, but odds are in favor of survival: all of us lot made it through to adulthood through all kinds of sketchy situations with likely less parental attention than kids get today. The key is coping skills and confidence, not luck. I think it's important to share stories with your kids even if they don't reflect favorably on yourself, there are lessons for them to learn from a parent's missteps. Contrary to popular fears, it doesn't translate into permission to fuck up on their own.

PM sent. Tim, you'll do okay here for a summer.

It looks better than ferns, maybe not quite so good as devils club.

Jay, if you haven't rented a car yet, check out what prices you find via Travelocity then put in a bid via Priceline. You can't always get a deal, but I recently got a car for 40% under the best regular price in Phx that way, and have had similar success for years. On a NE snowboarding trip about 6 years ago (4 out of 7 days were powder days, including Cannon and Jay Peak) I asked for a compact and got upgraded to some huge cadillac rig with leather seats and a cd changer. Snowboard looked pretty fab parked on all those acres of tan leather.

Frankly, we're all pretty sick and tired of this donkey show, which all too often includes Fairweather and Hugh Conway to boot. All of the mods and admins consider fucking with people over their TR's to be over the line, and this includes making fun of the way someone looks. Time and again, TR's prove to be both the most popular and some of the best content this site provides, and nasty little shenanigans that dissuade others from posting their reports are not welcome. KK, the fact that you post your TR's under a different avatar only underlines the fact that you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Not a giveaway, but not a bad price on a pretty good and very small headlamp. Note the discount code at the bottom of the quote: link

I posted a picture from that website awhile back, claiming it was my new project on the quarry at my place. Pope declared that I was devoid of conscience.

Rudy, trolling for Raindawg is sooo spray. I've relocated this thread for you, I'm sure you meant to put it here originally.
-
Silly Bill, "should have been there" is not intended to be taken literally.
-
nice avatar minx, i figured you were fridged this whole time. Dude, you should have been there that one time in the hot tub at the Moderator suite, you wouldn't make that mistake

I only have two problems with her rant. 1: "Bloviating" as a term is soooo last year. Mark my words, this year's in word will be "nano." 2: I suspect that Hilary Clinton is a pink man among women.
-
I'm going to cherry pick my own quote from that NYt article: Anyone want to argue with that conclusion?

It's sad, but not tragic. A full life well lived, we should all be so fortunate.

[TR] Joshua Tree for Christmas - many and varied 1/1/2008

Oh, I've seen those shots of the Pinkling, I was just angling for something current from Jtree. Basically, I'd like to see a few more shots from Mark's trip. -

Dude! Surrender the pink! We want a picture of Andrew. Waterchute is 5.10b now? I remember when it was one of a bevy of "Joshua Tree 5.9's", back when Pinched Rib was called 5.7. One of the solutions to the start of the Waterchute involved a running start and the "flying butt jam." Swell TR, thanks a bunch. -
Hah, I'd worry it was Blowboarder/Drater except I think he lives just a little north of both Hayden Lake and his mid 20's. How come no one is worried that maybe the mark was for real?
