  1. seriously, i'd think it wise to at least be familiar w/ prusiking a rope, building a snow anchor, and rigging a series of pulleys to hoist a fallen climber again though, sticking to the dog route provides a clear path that generally avoids cracks
  2. of course you can climb rainier w/ little glacier experience, especially if you take rmi's dog route up the disappointment cleaver...but you're up shit's creek if something goes wrong and you don't know what the hell to do. there are monster crevasses up high. shit, if dan howwit could do it, then anybody can
  3. told ya! pandora, eh? not quite the same ring, really...still, a rose by any other name, eh? think i'll miss girlclimber...she seemed so young n' friendly. pandora had a sinister side i seem to recall.

    sat-Mon

josh, i'm climbing hood saturday night...you feel like eventually heading down to or-e-gone?
  5. 1 word: girlclimber hope you drive!
  6. when does the road to mowhich lake usually open?
  7. just saw an article in newsweek that said people are retrofitting their outdoor pools to use this technology. likened the effect to "swimming in a pool of pasta water"...yummy!
  8. i know gator agrees though, spending more than 2 days on the mountain will increase your enjoyment of the whole experience. i tried the kautz in one day from down on the nisqually and felt like total shit by the time i reached 13k.

    PDX Party

nice. but damn, why can't we do these tie-a-serious-one-on par-tays some days when we ain't gotta go to work the next? let me guess, it's the only day the wife will let your friends over? guess this means the stones are in order?
  10. actually layton had skiis surgically implanted into his feet after he smushed 'em, so he had no need to mention them
  11. i think all this good weather is putting a weed up every oregonian's ass...when's it gonna get shitty again so no one will write tr's to be pissed about?
  12. right on folks...christ, hannah, you ever gonna try spending some time below 10k like us normal folk? you're blowing yer amateur standing!
  13. nice! ice/rockfall tame?
  14. i don't know...2 tr's for the same climb? if they cost a few grand each, i'd think this was gov. work...
  15. leaving at midnight is important when your group climbs like old people fuck
  16. You've summitted? you just keep throw'n 'em right down the middle eh, amigo? rob bats like .660 from the left in this league...
  17. if you like the 'gunks i highly recommend making a trip to seneca rox, in w. virginia. similiar rock & exposures. i think some of the oldest trad climbing in america was done there...one wall was used as training grounds for us rangers before ww2 (wall of a 1000 pitons) also large scale quarry blasting nearby...ignoring tons of dynamite exploding sure helps hone that razor sharp focus when on lead.
  18. um...didn't you like already post this or something?
  19. i limited myself to 2 pints but still somehow managed to space on taking the right exit on the interstate twice
  20. def enjoyed meeting big bill of the rox...kinda like a wierd hermit/troll but w/ a cliff instead of a bridge... a jedi master perhaps?
  21. aren't you just eating jello these days, poor boy?
  22. quality wise, i think people bash dehyrdy stuff ad nauseum... personally, i think some of the stuff tastes pretty good...but the fact that it looks almost identical when you shit it out does make me wonder if the body's actually deriving any benefit from it. my denali partner brought a bunch of dehryrdated stuff 'cuz he's wealthy and single and has nothing else to spend his money on...we used 'em for our high camp, which i thought was a good idea as the dehyrdated stuff was a lot lighter than our better tasting, more nourishing low-altitude foods

    Newbie progression

the best thing for makign progress, i think, is climbing w/ a mixed group of people; sometimes w/ folks doing stuff more difficult then you're used to, sometimes w/ folks more a novice then yourself. you acquire knowledge from the former and make it permanent by demonstrating it to the later.

    Hood

i like climbing w/ people who have split personalities...w/ the righ amount of pharmacueticals, sometimes the two actually agree!
  25. ummmm...come to rocky butte quarry (that big hill where i205 hits i84)...then come to the rose and the raindrop (bar near 84 in portland...adress online) and get drunk...to use pete's line "age and sexual orientation inconsequential"
