i suspect it will still be in fine shape, though a superduper early start so as to be up and back down to tie in rock before 10 or so in the morning would be wise. sounds like the road is open now, so it's a very reasonable car to car, though camping a night near tie in is a sweet, sweet experience, 'specially if you have a bottle of something all right

no rain today not so busy at all - most notable negative of the season has been the horrendous 'skitters, but today it was nice n' breezy...

I don't even try to waterproof my pack. Instead I line my pack with a garbage bag. The white "trash compactor" bags are the best, because they're the strongest. Everything that needs to stay dry goes in the trash bag. Usually I put my water bag outside the trash bag in case it leaks. I carry a second trash compactor bag for camping. As stuff comes out of the pack it goes into the second trash bag. Helps keep things together and dry. funny, i have some of those bitching white compactor bags that are still in use despite being older than half my high-tech gear

Taft visited Seattle and spent the night at a house overlooking Lake Washington. Prior to arrival they had to put in new wider doors. I'n not making this up, or at least I worked at a house next door a few years back and that was the story I heard. my favorite taft story is from when he arrived in the phillipens to be the first american governor there - he assured the huddled, insolent masses "you are all my little brown children and i am your Great White Father"

i've never had that experience - i did very much enjoy on el cap this last trip how they'd slooooowly cruise by giving me the big old eye, as interested in me as a slovenly hobo

speaking of birds though, yesterday was the wackiest i've seen it out there - full on aerial combat, birds crashing into the tree on tree ledge - them sitting all over the place squawking - dead fish n' guts n' shit everywhere - wasn't certain but at some pt it looked like a peregrine was tangling w/ a redtail hawk?

goddamn soloing the capitan sounds like a lot of work watchu use as your haul line, 'spray? we were using an 11 mm static, which was nice for fixing, but goddamn its heavy as hell halfway up the pitch - kept fighting a mental image of falling upside down and right out of the harness a 3rd tag line though would just be an extra pain in the ass to keep strait. been wanting to meet you dude, you gonna be out for the beacon opener tomorrow? come share a drink up on the ledge w/ the Brethern!
