  1. thought it would be fun to practice with the old gps and headed up the south side of hood...got immersed in the white out about halfway to the top of the lift...occasionaly got glimpses of the lift (probably could'a heard it too if i wasn't listening to the flogging mollies the whole time), which eventually ended up scaring the shit out of me...it was off when i decided to go up the ski area instead of far off to the side, so i figured i was safe...then i saw it was on, and the occasional skier heading up...as i could see no more than 20 yards of so, i was certain i would be killed by a speeding gore-tex coated bullet...had fun above the lift, navigating to some pre-entered coordinates...eventually got bored since i couldn't see a thing and even the dark sparkling hallucinations were beginning to become banal...enjoyed falling several times on the descent as i tripped over mini snow steps that totally didn't register to my eyes
  2. bringing it back to the top again and, desiring to skip rereading the whole damn thread, ask when and where the hell the great silient majority decided to do this thing
  3. dammit! i desperately need to get a good and social drunk tied on...ah well, reckon i'm soloing the north face of john walker again
  4. so is that actually happening tonight? i'm game if someone's wants to give me directions (and i lack the lettuce, much to my great agony, but i can bring beer)
  5. there are worse things than having too many places to drink at all at the same time
  6. i am so fortunate as to associate with such wise and sagacious folks....heavy drinking mixed with excessive talk of climbs past (what the hell else is there to do when it's raining?) the obtaining of special flavors of rare herbal remedies...why the hell we waiting for after the holidays again?
  7. there's naked people in oregon???!!! what the hell have i been doing climbing all this damn time? there's only one thing i really need to clamber up onto... i didn't propose a location at first cuz i have no damn idea what's around here...the only time i go into the city is when its raining and i can't climb...and when its raining and i can't climb i'm so grumpy i can't fucking think. guess i picked a good place to move to so next week it is? might have to find a gym to go climb at this weekend, speaking of rain...anyplace good to go/anyone doing any gym climbing this week? josh...why not bring the miss naked washington folk and get on down here?
  8. so why is it that the seattle folk seem to on a more regular basis than us? perhaps we can rectify the situation? anyone feel like going to work friday w/ the mother of all hangovers? heard i left just as things were getting interesting last time...
  9. no doubt...truly fucking fantastic picture...i assume you took this from the west moraine of the elliot? shitload more snow in those couloirs then when i was there last...now if only i could find a way around this work thing without encountering that poverty thing
  10. zappa? oh, yeah! that toilet sitting, catholic-screwing chap w/ the kids w/ the funny-names...yeah, isn't he dead?
  11. dude, every time i take a piss i have a tool in me hand (and yes, baby seals should be afraid...very afraid )

  13. 1. fleeing the state of virginia forever and celebrating my arrival to stay by heading up the highpoint of washington's dearest rain forrest 2. NR of stuart w/ what felt like the biggest pack ever dragged up that fucking thing 3. WR of forbidden and bushwhacking through all that avy crap in the surreal dark 4. WR of prusik and running the last 7 miles out to make my date w/ the wife (if you don't bring bivy gear, you won't bivy) 5. cooper spur...alright, not that hard but a whole different ballgame descending it solo in super slush...didn't see another soul the whole day big disappointment: weather crap-out on the boulder glacier of baker (shortly after losing the california fool who thought he was going to the top from there w/ his tennies and a stick) can't wait for the first full summer (school ends june 20 goddamit...anybody feel like taking 2 months off?)
  14. anybody up for looking for some trouble on this here to be fine weekend? rock climb at beacon? something on hood? help a brother out, i'm awful bored and caught myself yesterday thinking today was friday.
  15. hey jarred, let me know/post a tr if you do leuts this weekend...i'd like to give it a go right before t-giving w/ some right coast friends and i was interested in knowing what sorta shape the couloir would be in (they get bitchy when shit ain't perfect, see? and its dangerous when i have a tool in my hand to have to hear it)

    Portland brew

holy jeebus, it's a decision on getting drunk, not massivily invasive brain surgery...let's just choose a place (and then one a you nice boy's telling me how to get there as i couldn't find my own ass if it weren't so close to my dick)...sometimes i think i should just give up and go back to drinking bud (note: clear invitation to make a thc-related joke there)
  17. how much for your women? sell me your children...
  18. shit jens, shoulda told me you were down here...i'll always skip work/every-other-commitment-i-have to look for trouble...seems we need a critical mass of distracted types down here to make any progress far as those fancy indoor gyms, christ, who can afford them damn things? we po'boys gotta hope shit stays dry outside
  19. fuk'em ...what's he climbed lately? last time i checked i was climbing for fun too...

    via ferrata???

italy is supposed to have some fantastic via ferrata stuff...during ww1 & 2 they had all these defensive positions high in the alps, and since soldiers don't feel like free soloing w/ machine guns on their backs, they put in all this aid stuff for them, much of which is still there...apparently all you need is a harness and some prusiks and you can have a blast

    west rib of denali

thanks for the input... i'm not russian but ya gavaru pa russki descending the w. rib to reclimb it...i guess i didn't think of that for good reason...what were you going to climb ade? i do plan on acclimatizing first, probably by making a stash at 14 what rock pro (if any) did you bring for the upper rib?
  22. craig - whenya going? a largish group of my east coast biyatches (6 including meself) are coming out here to try the ledges right after xmas...maybe we can all hold hands on the way up and sing carrols?
  23. i climbed around in the upper elliot icefall on sunday and descended the west moraine...the west moraine trail is pretty straight forward and beat in...basically just stay left until you arrive at the snow dome (all ice now)...as far as approaching via the elliot, the gap we found to snow dome required climbing pretty high up into the icefall, then traversing over...probably would be faster to take the west moraine if the coe was all you cared about...both would be better than bushwhacking uphill from the timberline at the coe's base
  24. anybody been up either of those two recently (can't spend all your time playing around on the elliot, afterall)
  25. and there i was thinking we were all alone in the beautiful weather...think the coolest thing i saw all day was a veritable waterfall of clouds...some wind system moving big streams of clouds directly towards the ground at 90 degrees for several hundred feet before flattening out just overhead...trippy shit
