  1. The per capita GDP in the United States is ~$40K. There will be no revolution until people are hungry. Edit: Oops. I see Jim already said that.
  2. You mean like using them as letter openers? ZING! How's that for fluff!?!? OK, this wank is going climbing now.
  3. The "southwest" face of Das Toof? I didn't really consider El Toofo as having a SW face. FA of South Face is CL Anderson + HP Wunderling 1928. Edit: Just checked Brown Beckey. He lists FA of SW Face as F. Beckey, H. Beckey, and Louis Graham, 1942. Looks like your dad got scooped by the Beckster!
  4. I know about Mambo Jambo. What are the other two? Anybody here ever led the Vudu Guru corner on gear? I think it would go.
  5. My boots are still pretty new and the leather is in great shape and I've nikwaxed em, so they are plenty waterproof. The leather has gotten damp a couple of times and on one overnight trip they froze pretty stiff which was a pain in the morning. I've certainly never had large amounts of water in them. I don't think they are very breathable, but then again, I don't think any winter mountaineering boot is. I'm totally satisfied with the boots and if Sportivas fit you, I'd consider getting em especially if you can find a good deal on them. $430 retail is crazy!

    Lost on a climb

Why don't you go to some other website more your speed like barbiedolls.com or something and waste some bandwidth over there and leave us alone here? Run along.

    Lost on a climb

Is it just me or is cc.com going down the fucking toilet? Who are you wanks and what is this shit?
  8. I've got nepal extremes and they are pretty good. Not as nimble as the trangos, but probably warmer. Putting a better insole in them is a good idea and make sure you fit them with whatever insole you plan to use BEFORE you buy them. Insoles can make a big difference in warmth too. I know a few people who really like the Scarpa Freneys. Edit: scooped by Alex.
  9. BOB! I'll take em. I probably won't even need the plush shipping; I'll just try to con MisterE into delivering them to me. Edit: They aren't all covered in sheep goo, wool, or clown-puncher blood or anything like that are they?

    bastard

    Are you an Engrish major?
  11. Au contraire. Buy them from me; I'll give ya a price gouging the likes of which you won't soon forget. They're "historically significant"!
  12. I heard Colin carried both of them up the route. Can anyone substantiate that?
  13. Several of the pockets have gotten deeper/larger from "overuse"...nothing deliberate... Rudy, I'd like to see/hear your evidence for your "nothing deliberate" claim cause it sure sounds like bullshit to me. A pocket on a 5.14 route getting 50% bigger due to "overuse"? B.S.
  14. Several of the pockets have gotten deeper/larger from "overuse"...nothing deliberate...in the early 90's the mono, in particular, was quite shallow and set up to pull straight down on only...now, you can stack in it (guess that would make it a "1 1/2 finger" pocket) as well as pull on it in a gaston fashion...this is very very different from the original climb...its particularly noticeable in older pics... Sounds fishy to me.
  15. WOOHOOOO!!! UNCAGE THE SCREE!!!! EXTREME!
  16. Cool to compare lichen/plant growth between the two pics; not to mention digital image quality. When was your picture taken OW?
  17. Not sure when the bolt was placed, but it's been there for at least 4 years. I believe it's been hammered flat at least once. Cool factoid: I once watched a mountain goat send that "hand traverse" in high style.
