Treetoad hasn't had his terminals tongued in a while.

How long have you had it? I've had digicams have similar deaths after 2-3 years of similar abuse. Often without an obvious event directly preceding its death.

Last night we made a cream sauce w/ fava beans, leek, and morels served over cheap-ass pasta. Very yummy. Tried frying some squash blossoms but made the batter too thick. Ended up doughy instead of crispy.

The vodka does sound like a good pairing. I picked up a bottle of Bowmore 12 a few weeks ago. Anyone have some good recs for pairings? So far I've just sipped it by itself with a splash of water.

How long have you had it? Anything happen before it broke? Wet? Moisture? Drop?

good catch, lunger. 8.3 cm is it. -
Remember the Close Calls story about the JTree guides getting banged up and fined as a result of top-roping the Goodyear Blimp?

[TR] The north summit of Greenwood Mountain isn't
Gary_Yngve replied to klenke's topic in North Cascades
None. I am sure that given the distances you were dealing with, plane surveying is completely applicable. Yep. The earth's radius is about 6000 km. Going 1 km perpendicular to the radius would cause a change in altitude of sqrt(6000^2+1^2)-6000, which is approximately sqrt((6000+1/12000)^2)-6000, which is 1/12000 km, or about 83 cm. -

[TR] Stuart - complete north ridge 7/6/2007
Gary_Yngve replied to John Frieh's topic in Alpine Lakes
Here are some photos from Friday. I had been jonesing for alpine granite for quite a while but had been too busy to partake. Thanks Blake for coming up with the idea, being a great partner, and doing the driving both nights! (I still need to learn to drive a stick.) base of route crux pitch follows white crack that curves left then up higher on the ridge just before the gendarme We used their rack suggestion and thought it worked great. For p3, saving a #2 camalot for the top might be nice. There was tons of flowing water near the base of the CNR. We filled up completely down there and actually had "too much" -- we actually dumped some water before hiking up Longs Pass. Though it helped we got a "late" start from the TH, which put us descending the Cascadian in the shade. Blake, I think the "5.9" after the gendarme is that final headwall that has a squeeze chimney straight up, a handcrack going left that leaves you on the East Ridge about 100 vert shy of the summit, and a handcrack to the right of the chimney. Certainly not 5.9. 5.7-5.8? -

Looks like a Nikon Coolpix 5600 from the EXIF data. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Nikon/nikon_cp5600.asp Mark, how do you like your Sony DSC-W90? -
No, you just need to be able to scribble onto a Viagra pad with a Cialis fountain pen.

When we were there, moats were a nonissue. I imagine they've opened a bit since. -

single 50m rope works for rap. we went up the 5.3-5.4 route, like the N arete or something. i think i placed a red tcu 1/2 the way up the pitch and an orange tcu 3/4 the way up. obviously conditions will be more melted out than when we were there, but they should be fine. -

canon sd800, plus some postprocessing (mostly white balance / saturation) i tend to stop down forest/flowers shots manually so that the highlights and colors don't get blown out -
What about Windows Movie Maker? Also Quicktime Pro will do the conversions. A version ago, all one had to do was generate a quicktime pro key to enter in to unlock the full version (google for it)... dunno if it's still true.

The UW crew of Henzi, Miller, Yount, and Jantz had some classic dirtbag moments. Gratz, myself, and other newer folk have tried to emulate them but haven't come close. Some memories: -Our secret email list for broadcasting free-food events to crash -Walking away from one such crashed event with a dozen garbage bags of leftover food (rained out, so they had too much), including several pounds of both cooked and raw salmon -Two others crashing on my floor (1-bedroom apt) for the year, and we all three walk in simultaneously from independent trips and vie for all the doors, chairs, etc., to hang our wet stinky gear -Multiple roadtrips that are turned around or delayed due to cars as old as us breaking down. Bonus for the times that we fixed the cars ourselves with parts from the junkyard -My holy duct-tape-patched Goretex bibs that I'm still wearing, despite that most anyone else would have retired them a few years ago -One of us stripping naked to win a climbing rope. The following night, a second one of us asking a third to strip to win the rope for the second's behalf, on account of the second being inconveniently dressed

Trip: Olympus - booze, bikinis, and boomboxes Date: 7/4/2007 Trip Report: Often when I go on trips, I'm trying to stretch as much mileage or climbing as I can into as little time as possible. Not so over July 4th, as I was anxious to end a long drought of spending multiple nights in the backcountry (cragging is fun, but it's just not the same as being back there). The change of pace was very refreshing. Eleven of us spent five days doing Olympus, which consisted of two "block-party" camps at Nine Mile on the way in and out, and a high camp at Glacier Meadows. The Nine Mile camp was really sweet, especially with the large sandbar in the river. The sandbar was large enough for all of us to partake in a soul-uncaged football match. The rainforest was rather dull on the way in, all dry, but on the way out, it was misty and dew-covered -- it really came to life. Gear Notes: Some folks were really impressed by the orikaso folding bowls. Will be interesting to see how they bowls age. Approach Notes: Some juvie trailworkers at Nine-Mile Camp ripped us off of two Ipods (really sucked... apparently they didn't want the battery-powered speakers because they wouldn't fit up their asses) and five tallboys (they barely dented our stash) while we slept after our first round of partying. Word from the ranger is the same group stole someone's wallet at another camp the following night. -
Yeah, CS PhD student at UW. No real affiliations with music dept, though I practice in their rooms when I have a piano accompaniment and I take advantage of listening to their recitals (dirtbags note that they often have nice food spreads afterward). When I play too long, I also get a tightness in my left shoulder that causes numbness/poor motor in my left hand. Improving my posture has helped with it, although it still kicks in after 2-3 hours of casual playing or an hour of Bach's suites without rest. Cello's been lying low for over half a year though with all the other occupiers of my time (graduating, teaching, climbing, job search, girlfriend, etc.).
