Middle Sister Southeast Ridge Beta Needed
b-rock replied to tobytortorelli's topic in Oregon Cascades
Thanks Iain. Might bring some sneakers. I do prefer to descend my ascent, but the traverse would save more time and probably be more fun. Good to hear the Hayden isn't too intense. Word, have a safe weekend all! -

Thanks, we might do that. Trying to avoid any major glacier travel though. -

Toby - Did you make the trip this week? Gunna head down for a ski of Middle and South, approaching from Pole Creek. Iain - Abouts how far is the bootpack until I can skin? Thanks y'all. -
The Gifford Pinchot National Forest site says 6.5 miles from Cold Springs as of 5/14. So probably a bit less than that.

I have the Western Mountaineering's Fortress. I hate small places, and this one is big. Enough room for my stuff and to comfortably change clothing, etc. Not the best in rain, not sure what bivy would be.

How steep is that section? I haven't climbed it, but I don't think it looked like 65 degrees. I think everyone already tried to hash this out in an old thread. Nothing on the Hogsback is over 45 degrees, if that.

Lisa - Were you on snow from the trailhead or is it mostly melted out in the trees? Thx.

It's getting worse. The rescue helicopter crashed. This really sucks. http://www.kgw.com/

Vertical World allows ring on finger while climbing???
b-rock replied to erden's topic in Climber's Board
Funny, newbie here, I was using my ring to help me jam 'dem finger cracks just last month. Worked well until I though of the possibility of leaving it there with my middle finger if I peeled. I'm not real smart, but I learn fast. -
Thanks, Iain, I'll be there with a crew.

Rod - Will do. I didn't get around to putting a phone call in until yesterday, left a message. No word yet.

Thanks y'all for the info, thanks ScottP for the link, don't know how I missed that on Maxim's site. I'll be talking to someone over there today because the amount of slippage I'm getting is over the 1 or 2 % standards noted.

I just bought a GriGri for my partners for this very reason...

So, got my first rope, 50m x 10.5mm Dry Maxim, and have been top roping like crazy. Problem is, I've been getting some sheath slippage off both ends - one about 12 inches, the other about 6. I've cut the extra and melted the ends. Maxim tells me this amount of slippage is normal. Anyone agree/disagree? Thanks.

35 round trip. 'cept I only do it a couple times a week. Didn't today. Didn't know it was bike to work day. Lame.

Ok, newbie question. 'Walking up cams' - Does this mean setting and clipping into a cam, climbing past it, reaching down to pull it, then set it again above you? Thanks y'all.

Eagle creek is mellow and beautiful, but decidedly crowded, save for midweek. Options for loops and increased difficulty by way of Benson Creek trail and others. Ruckle Ridge is what I think you are thinking about - great long walk and amazing high meadows. GREAT loop up the ridge trail then back down Ruckle Creek trail. The ridge trail is mostly unmaintaned and has some great easy scrambling and views on the way up. Tough to find though, access is via the campground at the base of the ridge. There is a guidebook I have somewhere that gives a bit more detail on finding the TH if you are interested, let me know and I'll take a look for it. Have fun!

And he even got his topo.

If some 'biler came 18 inches from me, he'd get a friggin' ax to the head. Dumb shit.
