I've had some bad experiences with reporters - being hounded, being asked leading questions,...it quickly got to where I'd keep my middle fingers in the air whenever I saw a camera, and whenever they asked a question I'd respond by saying "Reporters are assholes". And they are. All of them. [ 08-01-2002, 06:14 PM: Message edited by: lizard brain ]

Hey Lambone- I'm real curious...how many hours was it between the first phone call and the time you saw the Men in Blue at the door of your I-tent?

I think you ladies owe Trask an apology and a nice hug.

I read recently that they won't charge for rescues because that if they did, people would be more likely to wait until it was too late to save them to call. Someone would think about a five-figure rescue bill, and not call until they were severely hypothermic or in a panic, and wind up being carried out in a rubber bag. Who pays for that?

Hey Trask- -Has nothing to do with the topic, really...I was just looking for an excuse to post this picture.

Well, I'm glad you have a decent broker, because many of them are just guys with MBAs that know how to talk the talk.

I think it was Peter Lynch that said that there are three things to remember about stockbrokers... 1. Stockbrokers are salesmen. 2. Stockbrokers are salesmen. 3. Stockbrokers are salesmen. They get paid on commission or per sale, and many of them SUCK at stockpicking. Spray on: When you're picking a broker, ask to see their personal portfilio and their personal income tax records for the last few years. Almost all of them will shit if you ask them this. They will refuse to share any of this information with you, and at the same time they expect you to trust them with your personal finances.

Hey, don't worry about it. As long as you have a cell phone, you're safe.

I'd sell enough to get my original investment back, plus a few bucks, and let the rest ride long-term. Just an opinion. Some say this is an "economic downturn" or a "bear market"...I say THE STOCK MARKET IS ON SALE!!!

If a reporter hears from anybody that you've ever been climbing before, especially if that's what they want to hear and it will help sell the story, then you're an experienced climber.
-
Take a wild guess.

Climbed Daniel yesterday. Hiked in Saturday with beautiful weather. Slogged up Lynch glacier in wind & rain yesterday. Visibility was pretty minimal, so it took us some extra time to find the scramble route down. The scramble was more interesting than the climb, IMHO.

A conservative that want to have fun...isn't that a libertarian? -No, wait...a libertarian is a republican that wants to smoke pot.

What I’m saying (and I’m speaking in general - not referring specifically to you, sisu), is how much engineering does one need to enjoy their “wilderness experience”? What’s the purpose of a wilderness area? Do we really need to have every obstacle removed at a moments notice? Part of the reason I was so reactive was that I’ve gotten used to thinking of being outdoors as being off-trail (and sometimes off-route), and part of the experience is dealing with the environment as nature left it – without amenities such as paved trails and bolted routes. Yes, I understand the points made about the philosophy behind the Wilderness Act, and the by-the-book method interpreting it. But I also wonder if building foot-traffic freeways through what little is left of our (somewhat) untouched wilderness areas won’t just do more to increase over-use and speed their demise. Yes, I am selfish about this. I know that I am willing to go where a lot of other people won’t go because the natural environment hasn’t been sufficiently modified to make it easily passable. And I wouldn’t mind keeping it that way.
