I clip my pearbiner to the belay loop. I do this more for ease of use and comfort than anything. I've heard people stump for both set-ups. My opinion is that, unless the harness is really old or damaged, the belay loop is supposed to be strong enough to take a fall. It seems too dangerous for them to manufacture otherwise. That's why the loop is so sturdy looking (at least on my harness).

Seems to me, if you were going to kill yourself (maybe by default, you thought no one cared about you, thus you'd have no one to give your money to in a will), you would take all your money with you down to Vegas and try to make the big payday and thereby turn your life around. When that fails, as it invariably does, they turn back to their original plan: to kill themselves.

So who's gonna be the first to drive the new Buick Rainier to Mt. Rainier? I'm personally waiting for the Kia Toof to come out for all those weekend getaways to Snoqualmie Pass.

It's become so boring here that I have resorted to clicking on a thread just to see what catbirdseat had to say, then, boreder still, take the time to make a response. I'm so bored in fact, that I'll preview this post three times to get it right before sending it.

I haven't seen catturdeat post in a while. Someone's got to keep catbirdseat in check; someone's got to be the anti-catbird (the birdseatcat, if you will).

Well, as long as Kerry wasn't entering an interred intern, I see nothing wrong with his actions.

Topozone map of south side of St. Helens I'm pretty sure the standard route that everybody and the greatgrandma takes is right up Monitor Ridge.

Oh, don't get me started. Wet T-shirt contests, better venues (Hooters would rock!), more women. Two weeks ago I was at the same location but didn't hang out with the regulars because I was hangin' with my friend from Idaho. I found out later the regs were making fun of me for not joining them. Seems to me about six of the regs showed up. This week I have a slight cold, so bagged out on it yesterday. Can't go every week else people will begin thinking I've got nothing better to do...on a Tuesday night.

Your answer might be gleaned here. I believe the Monitor Ridge Route is the standard easy south side route. The mountain is of varying steepness to the summit (the last bit being fairly steep--maybe 35 degrees--to the crater rim). I can't answer your avy concerns, though. I can say that you need to beware of cornices at the top hanging over the rim. They can get really big, I hear.

The fat: yes, especially Houston. The short: actually, probably Texan men are bigger and taller than the normal city slicker cuz they eat all that protein food called BEEF and...pfffft...BEANS.

Scatturd, I am half Texan and I've just got one thing to say to you: Don't mess with Texas. Josh:

Some wicked shots in there--esp. in the climbing section. It's pictures like that that make me ponder what people back in the Middle Ages would think if they could see us now...doing the crazy shit we do now. I also like that photo of the woman climbing up the tree.

Classic Walken at the end: "I would like to end by emphasizing once again that I really like to eat hot dogs. If any of you people disagree, I loathe you. I despise you. Not only that, but I also dispise all your loved ones. I want to see them torn to pieces by wild dogs. If I ever meet you in person, I'll smash your brains in with a fucking bat. then we'll see who doesn't like hot dogs."

What a let down of a story. I thought you were going to say there was a fight where car seats were flying (but then I read it was MK and Rat, not Beck). Last Monday, at the base of the big rock glade, Sergio and I decided to yo-yo back up to the base of the rock. Sergio got out ahead of me. I started out fine but then my skins kept slipping off because they were icy. This meant I had to boot it up the track (the track to climbers left of the glade) for about three switchbacks to where I could meet Sergio so he could give me his camera. It was all for the sake of filming him, else there's no way I would have booted it up that few hundred yards. It was hard work even in the ski tracks. So, if that's where you saw boot pack in the tracks, that was me. But that's the only place I booted it.

Gallery is FUBAR for me again. Hoses up my browser (like stated above, cookie problems). This problem seems to come and go for me but right now it's been coming more than going.

Deep deep deep! Yesterday snowshoed in the deepest snow I've ever snowshoed in. It was approaching 2 feet of pow at 4,800 ft. 1 foot of pow at 3,800 ft. Today I is sore.

It helps to know which Dilbert you're talking about. Pick from the calendar if it is a daily Dilbert.

I saw some thing on TV not too long ago where there was this Chinese fellow about 30 years old who had a partially formed head growing out of the side of his neck (sort of below and behind the ear). Really it was only a mouth and some bulging out that resembled cheeks. Anyway, when this guy chewed (or moved his jaws), the other mouth did so too in unison. Doctors excised the "spurious" mouth. I guess this Chinese guy is/was pretty famous in medical circles.
