Here is a picture of it (partially obscured).

Mt. Howard, the high-point of Nason Ridge, has a stout prominence of 2,903 ft. This puts it at 55th most prominent in the state. Prominence is a good indicator of the views that could be expected from the summit, as there will generally be nothing around as high as it is. I have climbed Mastiff in May from the Merrit Lake trailhead. We never went as far as Lost Lake, which requires a descent into a basin east of Mastiff. Instead, we climbed up Mastiff's Southeast Ridge. It would not really be possible to ski (skin) up this ridge because it is craggy at one key section on the crest and cliffy on the west side. You could possibly traverse on the east side but it would be a steep traverse. There's definitely some lovely open terrain skiing up there. I've put some pictures in the gallery: SE Ridge of Mastiff I SE Ridge of Mastiff II Mastiff from its SE Ridge Mt. Howard from Mastiff Rock Mtn from Mastiff

RobBob: I invite you to crack open your Websters and investigate 'alright.' The English language is and always will be malleable. Alright is now in such common usage again that it is acceptable in most forms of writing that are not strictly formal. This website is about as informal as it gets. It's the schnizzle man!

This is an incredible sight: Bigger version of this here.

All I know is Simon is currently tied for 4th in the Johnnie Walker Classic.

I'd have liked to see the Rain Man slam dunk that Bin Laden! "Oh good golly Miss Molly!" ...and then turn it over the next four times down the court.

You might have said the same thing about Saddam, Brian, but now he's been captured. I think our chances of getting Osama bin Hidin are better odds than the lottery, but you keep on buying those tickets if you want.

Here's an idea for Timmy/Jon: You have previously put out requests for people to delete old PMs from their accounts. One reason I don't do this more is that it is a slight annoyance for me because of the added mouse-clicks to do it. Often, I like to know what I'm deleting so I have to read a message first and delete it (either by pressing the button below the PM or backtracking out and checking the box). I was thinking just now that it would be cool if you guys created a new button next to the regular delete button below the PM that would allow you to delete AND go to the next message in the list. That way I (we) could delete PMs all at once by going through them individually w/o all the added mouse clicks.

Also, is it just me or has the ability to edit a comment for a gallery picture been taken away? It used to be possible to edit what you wrote, but now no longer seems possible. Am I missing something? (I'm talking about the rating/comment one makes for someone else's photo, not the caption for one's own photo.)

Dave Schuldt! Wirlwind!??? What about Muffy? Did you forget to make fun of her notoriously bad spelling out of some respect for her cuz she's a woman?

Maybe we should add a new feature: In order to view the spray forum you have to log in. When you log in and go to spray for the first time, you must check a waiver box that says that you enter the forum at your own risk and that there are no holds barred. It would be sort of akin to those license agreements we never read when loading up new software. Spray is spray. If you don't like what people are saying in there, don't go in there. It's is you that ritualistically logs in every day and goes to spray to see what's going on. It is you who become offended at the things you can't stay away from. You've only yourself to blame. Fairweather's exodus from this site (if it be real...who knows, he may reappear as a new avatar thus trying to come across as someone with fresh ideas) may have more to do with his realization that this site wastes his time--time better spent on more meaningful activities--than that this site itself is a problem in it's content alone. Despite what seems like an insane attraction for some high-level users of this site, there is more to life than this site. (Isn't there? ) Other than these, I have sensed a drop in the vitality of this site lately. But this vitality fluctuates all the time. No sense getting upset about it. If the problem persists, maybe the site has a bug and needs an elixir.

I just want to say that I had McDonald's twice yesterday (once in the mornin and once coming home), and I feel grrrreeaaaat today. Interestingly, the morning egg McMuffin smelled the same coming out as going in...much to the chagrin of some of my climbing partners.

Yeah, sorry, Chiwawa on the right. My bad.

Blake, your last picture is a long way from Silver Star. It is of Fernow & Seven Fingered Jack with Fortress Mountain at far right. I'm guessing it was taken from Miners Ridge, possibly from the lookout.

(Per)Plexus(ed): I suppose it could be a matter of opinion, but I beg to differ. Essentially, if you look at a topo, Pika and Blue Lake peaks are on the same ridge. Take a look at this topo. Pika is Pt. 7565 on the right. Blue Lake Peak is the point where the county boundary line makes a sharp turn to the right (north). The saddle just before BLP makes it look like BLP and Pika are not on the same ridge, but in my opinion they are. See #'s 13 & 16 on this image for clarification. This image shows that saddle more clearly. In this image, Pika Peak is at the near end of that craggy ridge demarcating the county boundary line. Besides, in relation to what I was getting at in my previous post, I was simply talking about the long slope/ridge lining the north side of Copper Creek. In looking at the topo, there is a Pt. 7651 SW of BLP that is in a direct line from the west end (Pt. 7223) of Stiletto Peak's ridge and Liberty Bell that would fully obscure the latter from the former. Note also that Stiletto (7660 ft) is not the highest point on its ridge. There is a "Switchblade" Peak (Pk 7805) about half-a-mile east that is the highest (see #11 in the previous image link).
-
I'm thinking that is McGregor Mountain from the NNE (from near where the other two pics were taken).
-
Liberty Bell/South Early Winter Spire would be to the left sort of behind Pika Peak (and Blue Lake Peak, which is next to Pika on that same ridge). That ridge would probably obscure a view of the Liberty Bell Group. But you could see it from Stiletto Peak, I'm sure. Stehekin Bakery Cinnamon Roll!!! Attached is a mountain scene that has stumped CC.comers before. See if you can figure it out.

Yes, he meant Long. Low is down by Kaleetan Peak and Melakwa Lake. Good job on the ascent, Catbird. Sounds like it was a spicy descent.

Blake, your answer(s) have been added as comments to your pics. What's my prize?

Today I climbed something you've never heard of. Dru: as much a loser as Mtn Mouse.
