I was the reciever of vandals in the Redoubt approach area. They fucked with the car a little writing hate stuff in the dirt/paint. They chopped down a big tree across the road to try and hold up our progress. I havent been the same since

Late fall would be the most burly. Has anyone done Elliot in Oct when the Black ice forms. I havent since 87. Probably some or most of the ice is now gone in that season.

I have always thought the greatest route in Oregon would have to be the Coe-Eliot Headwall- link up. I also think it hasnt been done in a single push. I am throwing you all a frickin bone here. Grade 4-5?

12:45 am? I went there last year with Alasdair. We went up the original start , it was a great route. The alternative is quicker but dangerous unless you do it at night or early in the am. Anything specific you would like to know? Which start are you interested in?

Diamond Lake may have something to do with it?

I think the best route on it is the West ridge , it has 2 good pitches with tremendous exposure. Id say it is 5.6 or so and has an ancient fixed pin on it. The mcG Memorial is a serious route. It is protectable but I didnt do the usual finish.

The Dodge guide is a masterpiece of old school guide books. I am fortunate to have 2 of the older copies(1968) and 2 of the newer copies(1975). It is the piece of literature that got me inspired to climb as far back as I can remember.Occasionally acopy will surface at Powells. It is riddled with mistakes. The Smith section has one on every page, as the legend goes. Showing, however, all 20 of the routes at Smith. I hope you youngins all get to see this hallowed book. It is marvelous.

I meant Rabbit ears in OREGON. The one near Crater Lake. "Any fool can climb rock . It takes a special fool to climb bad rock" -Tom Patey. I am a better climber for doing the choss dance. Even the best routes will have a mank session. Experience with it will keep you with a cool head.

The updated OHigh will feature much new stuff, from new rts. on Broken Top to mt Hood. It will also feature history, which I am pleased to hear. It sounds like a completly re-vamped Vamp.

That is not the best part. He also went in there in the winter. After a 5 day approach he got halfway up some route in the range. I am reasearching the subject currently. I am just geeking out

I agree and disagree with the "One good mt." There is so much more to Oregon than you can find . Have you ever seen the North Cirque of Mt Theilsen?,Few have,... it is spectacular as any place I have been! The Turkey Monster? (CHOOOSSS, though cool ) . Mt Washington? The Wallowas? The Rabbit Ears? I think Oregon is better than 45 of the other states!
