  1. Park outside the gate on Bald hills road and ride your bike in. Its less than a half hour ride and a good warmup. Lock your bikes!
  2. The Bolted Flake in Tenino looks a little bit more difficult these days. 20' of nice layback flake are now a 6" ledge with 20' of Rurp seam angling up across a vertical face.
  3. so you can close your eyes and imagine you're on the eiger mordwand? Nah if I wanna do that I'll just stand on the little piece of it that I own
  4. There are 2 reasons why I want to climb limestone in Vegas. The first is that I have never climbed on limestone. Secondly we usually hit the canyons for multipitch the first three days and sportclimb the fourth before catching a late flight back home. With a high concentration of climbs in limestone areas we should be able to get a lot of pitches in on the last day. If we don't die of heat prostration I'll let youall know how it turned out in a week or two.
  5. Things were great last nite, Off! The rock is so grippy this time of year. Everything seems just a little bit easier than on those hot summer nites. Plenty of daylight to get 6-8 pitches in. A grand start to the season!
  6. worked today, don't know what I was doing wrong. TY again.
  7. Thanx! Hmm, link not working for me
  8. I see there are a couple of guidebooks, any helpful advice as to which is better?
  9. Hiked up Ellinor to about 4500' yesterday (4/14) from the lake. Didn't see any tracks down on the road at the lower TH but I'll bet it'll be open to there very soon. Hit old snow on the trail at about 3k and fresh at 4k.
  10. How's it lookin for tonite?
  11. Hey Nat how's it goin? Its been awhile since you bailed me out on the last pitch of Davis-Holland and Lovin Arms up at Index. I'm still in Olympia, working about a block and a half from your old garage woodie there. You should come up to Off Whites quarry some wednesday, there may be something hard enough to interest you there. Good luck on hooking up with some sick crankers down there.
  12. I'd rather put my fingers in a shark's mouth.
  13. Anyone get the FA of "The bolted where did that flake go?" yet????????
  14. Did he mispell wool or carpentry?
  15. after sliding down hills on sticks for 30+ years it became apparent to me that I would probably never master them. after 5 snowboarding trips I am positive its easier for me to ride thru chopped up powder than to ski (or whatever it was i was doing all those years) it. So sorry to have made a misleading statement in my earlier post my fourlegged friend.
  16. What I learned my first time boarding down from Anvil Rock; Pack changes your balance alot on toeside turns Lean back a little to keep tip up. Stop facing the slope to facilitate arising. Much easier to power thru chopped up powder on snowboard than skis - ie at Pan Point.
  17. Its easy to defeat the pump by improving your vascularity. Try lifting weights. It'll relieve that sore neck as well.
  18. Hail, Theoden, King! Does that heli ruling apply to National Conservation Areas as well? Specifically 2' above the summit of Mt Wilson at Red Rocks.
  19. I could see where this climb would be a couple of grades harder as a trad lead because the gear would be in the way of your feet and sometimes your hands, there are not a lot of good placements that I noticed although there are some good stances to place gear lower down. I think I'll stick to leading G & M and TRing Red M&M's. I think 11b is a fair grade if you compare it to other climbs on M&M Wall but 11c or 11d compared to most of Vantage.
  20. Watch out for da hiring Police!
  21. In the town of Joshua Tree there are two climbing shops on opposite sides of the road to the entrance. I bought a great hiking guide for my parents who live in the area at the north one. I have Vogel's guide which covers a lot of ground but is very minimal on route info. Theres also a guide to 60 moderate classics out that has an amazing amount of beta on those 60 climbs. I'm sure you'll find them both at either store.
  22. Climber's Guide to the Olympic Mountains
  23. Great troll Marylou, no way he could resist putting down Vantage.
  24. When that new casino out by 215 on Charleston is done you could ride a bike out from there easily. Anyone know when it opens or what it is gonna be called?
