Mike Gauthier I have a problem with a rule in MRNP! Dogs are not allowed, but horses are allowed on trails. That seems bassackwards to me! Horses leave A LOT of dung--more than dogs. And horses are more intimidating that dogs on leashes! [ 09-04-2002, 04:01 PM: Message edited by: Stefan ]

I am not a bouldering person but there was a big slab I saw once on the SE side of Tunk Mountain or maybe it was Beehive mountain? I don't remember. You will definitely see it as you go east through the Tunk Valley north and east of Omak. Not Indian land, but maybe some private farmland you have to walk to get across. There is also some vertical walls right next to the highway that goes on the east side of the Okanagon river north of Omak. Quality of rock is unknown to me.

I am lazy and I do not want to rappel down to the Concord/Liberty Bell col, walk around, and then hike up to the Concord/Lexington col, so I ask this question: Can a person rappel down from Concord Tower to the Concord/Lexington col? Coming down the standard route you only need a 50 meter rope at only one place.

Lambone. Question. I am not second guessing your experience with this question. I just want to know for my future reference. Did you notice any cloud caps on either Rainier or Baker on your last nice day camping at the summit? Even small ones high above?

Here's one. I was with my daughter doing some hiking in NE and Central washington this weekend. Mid 70's the whole time. No clouds on Saturday. Mostly sunny on Sunday. It was a great weather weekend!

I have done the traverse. I didn't think it was a problem. I traversed on the east side below "A" pinnacle. I kept traversing on the east side well below the actual crest. I remember I was several hundred feet in elevation below the crest. I eventually came to the climbers path up to Washington. Look at the USGS maps closely.

Normal route is the east ridge route. I have no idea when it was done--probably in the 30's.

Did j-berg several years ago. Went from car at Eldorado trailhead (gate closed) to summit and back to col via normal route. Went up and did Cascade peak too on same day. Great day. Camped in some trees below the col on the south side (you don't need an overnight permit here becuase it is officially out of the NCNP). Next morning woke up to rain, but climbed the Triplets. We came out via cascade-johannesburg couloir. We glissaded the couloir down.

Depends where you plan on climbing or camping. If you camp in a designated campground next to the highway then you have to pay. If you camp overnight in the official borders of the National Park then you have to get a permit but do not have to pay. Here is another option, camp just beyond the official border, then you don't have to get a permit unless you are in the wilderness boundary. The Liberty Bell group is not in the North Cascades National Park but under the boundary of the National Forest. The only thing you have to watch out here for is passes to park your car.....which of course you don't have to worry about..... So many damned rules...and none of the agencies are working together....

Once the rice is done, add the cheese until it melts. Take off the stove. Cut up the tortillas into mouth sized pieces and mix them in with the rice and cheese. Add the brocolli. Eat

Ken Schramm is only ranting about the bicycle messengers downtown. He is not ranting about the everyday joe commuting or using his bike outside of downtown.

Questions for Mike Gauthier!!! 1) Are climbing permits only required for climbs when you exceed 10,000 feet? That would include Little Tahoma even for a day? 2) If I arrive before the gate attendant is on duty and climb Cowlitz Chimneys in a day do I have to have any backcountry permits? Parking permits?

This is a suggestion. We climbed Dome Peak this past weekend. We followed the climber's path up Bachelor Creek to where it peters out at 4200 feet. I think the trail crosses the creek at this point, but I don't know. Here is my suggestion: We went left through about 150 meters of okay brush and into the forest without crossing the creek. The forest then turns out to be awesome without undergrowth. We stayed left of the avalanche debris in the forest until we came to the bench at 5400 feet to the right of Mule Lake. From there we walked on the wide hillside bench (which is just above the avalanche debris) directly up to Cub Lake Pass.

I stay out of the spray forum becuase I don't understand the concept of "spray". But when I looked today, holy cow--15 pages on one topic. So I guess this must be a hot topic. Can someone please explain to me what is the concept of "spray"? I really don't understand. Really. Do you people just joke around or do you try to belittle others? I really don't understand, and I find the thread confusing.
