  1. i hope you already have tickets. they told me they sold out three weeks ago.
  2. no. they [are designed to] fit snug and aren't really "that kind of glove." i suppose if you got them looser-fitting you could, but what's the point?
  3. fleece gloves actually do work great. i "accidentally" wore mine on a climb and didn't even notice until i was done. good inexpensive alternative.
  4. i also vote for the ice floe. it's not the warmest glove out there, but it rocks - excellent fit, great dexterity, good sensitivity. they are padded - no sore knuckles, have a nice microfleece lining, and are easy to get on and off when wet. no liners. i will often bring another pair of warm fleecy gloves to wear when the climbing's done. i've heard guys complain about how long they last, but mine are still in excellent condition after maybe 30 days on ice. i restrict their use to ice climbing. great gloves.
  5. sweet. i hope to to see some fur-trimmed tube sock valve covers this winter!
  6. i beg to disagree -- especially if you do much resort skiing when there isn't a bunch of pow. there are some days where a good carving ski or an all-mountain/park ski are much more fun than a fatty.
  7. i heard that on the news last night, too. i was wondering if he had put it on the stove because it wasn't working properly. what a freak accident.
  8. personally, i would keep both set ups and just work to find a good deal on some cheap downhill skis for the AT setup. try online outfits like evogear.com or go to places like gart that will have a small selection of really cheap closeout skis. or rummage through your closet to find something less useful you can sell. (my thinking is that if you ski a lot you will ultimately end up with two different types of setups - maybe one fat and one not so fat - that you can choose to use depending on the conditions.)
  9. markws and i went up there on sunday afternoon. had to hike quite a ways before we could throw skins on. saw the biggest most sparkly surface hoar i'd ever seen. skinned up to the ridge before the last push would have occurred. passed snowboarder+dog and two skiers on their way down. didn't summit due to a rather late start and impending darkness. made a short ski back down in some concrete-like crusty snow. UGH ... but it sure was pretty. skied trail back to where it turns to dirt and hiked down into darkness. it wasn't thousands of feet of spine-tingling pow, but it was good anyway - definitely nice to get back on the white stuff!
  10. nothing heinously wrong with the place really. it's low budget so you pretty much get what one might expect. (outhouses for example.) i assumed larrythelama was knocking the business end of silverton and not the actual physical ski area. i wouldn't be worried about much aside from getting stuck on the lift. having people go missing or dead would seriously hinder their efforts.
  11. ditto. i have ascensions with clipfix and g3's. ascensions are a little better ... but not so much so that i'm going to ditch my g3's. g3's tails are much nicer than clipfix ... but no so much that i've gone out and bought bd's adjustable tail for $20 ... yet.
  12. frosty, you can always call wren industries for technical advice as well.
  13. but silverton's not like every ski place you've been to. i went there with a friend who was looking for a job a couple of summers ago. i was rather dumbfounded when i met aaron, and any desire i might have had for potentially working for that mountain was quickly thrown by the wayside. let's just say that i was convinced his wife must be the one running the show.
  14. sounds like it was a little rough on the gear, but at leat y'all are alright! yum ... snow ... yum.
  15. i don't have anything to add, but what a f'ing funny thread!!!
