smartwool makes awesome socks. you don't really need liners if you've got the right socks. wool is best as it won't harness stench over time. watch out for socks with annoying seams that may be an issue and cause hot spots. also, stay away from socks that are so thick your boots are really tight as this inhibits circulation (which makes your feet colder).

we actually had a job candidate tell us this morning she was not going to live her anymore with bush as president. she is selling her house and moving to canada. lucky for her she has dual citizenship ...

one commentary i saw said any state not near water was likely to vote republican. maybe they're just dehydrated.

i rarely watch that show but i happened to see that one and it was pretty damned funny.

the summer 2004 issue ofthe wilson quarterly has some articles about smarts. one of them highlights some interesting observations about presidents and their iq's ... and how the best presidents won't have a super-high iq. interesting stuff.

i'm impatient, too, and dreaded how long the lines might be after work so i managed to squeeze my voting in right at 7am ... and still make it back home and to work on time. whew!

they are convenient ... even if you only come out at one inopportune moment. also convenient for when your boots are intentionally out of your bindings. (like before you put them on or while you're having lunch, etc.)

yeah; a little pricey perhaps, but it's not such a stretch from the cost of a regular movie these days. sometimes it helps to think of your entertainment in terms of cost per hour and determine if it's worth it to you from there. getting into the movie ... $12. some drinks ... $20. fun with friends and wintertime stoke ... priceless.

interesting that you say that because i feel the purple ones also perform better than the g3's. i didn't realize the purple skins were different from the bovine ones. if they are, maybe the best thing would be to go with the purples and buy the optional sts tail system to replace the clipfix one?

brakes - definitely. crampons - nice to have. (not sure how the diamir-related brakes work but with naxo bindings heel-lift is inconsequential.) skins - i have bd clipfix on my tele setup and g3's on my at setup. the g3 tail system is awesome, but i think the bd skins are better. my next set will be bd glidelites ...

i learned how to ride a motorcycle - woohoo! i was really glad the rain held off and it turned out to be a nice autumn weekend! also saw the asylum street spankers saturday night and watched the 4th quarter of the seahawks game on tv yesterday. (glad they finally kicked that losing streak.)

don't forget the helmet.

there's really good skiing in colorado, but i personally wouldn't put breckenridge in my list of places to find it. the only draw i could see to living in summit county is if you need easy access to a big city for work.

hey clivus, have you skied the norbert joos in much hard crud or icy conditions? just curious what you thought of the performance in those arenas ...

i've never seen good prices at the expo. could be because they never have the stuff i'm looking for, though.

i used the cloudveil ice floe for 19 days of water ice climbing in ouray/silverton/telluride last season and never really had a problem with them sopping. (perhaps it depends how much of the water ice you're climbing is actually ice? ) i'm not saying the gloves stayed perfectly dry but i didn't usually find the lack of waterproofness a huge issue for cragging and day climbs. i haven't had any luck finding warmer gloves that offer me the good fit and dexterity i want for this type of pursuit, though, so i definitely put up with more than i perhaps want to ...
