  1. okay; i think i was gettin' it today. it felt almost like i was surfing on my back leg, with my weight pretty far back (to keep my tips up ... and to keep from face planting over my tips). but man is it hard work! i think i need to be more comfortable with skiing faster in powder, too. it also helped that they're doing a tele/at demo here today and i got to take out some fatties!
  2. got 12" since last midnight ... and it's STILL growing - er, snowing! not sure i can handle much more at once, though.
  3. i ain't a snow snob - really. to me, EVERY day is a good day to ski ... no matter what mountain i happen to be at! and i actually do like skiing in slush. slush is fun. but so is fluffy pow. i ski on rocks, too. sometimes it's really fun! nothing a little tune-up won't cure ...
  4. what a superb tr. and awesome pics! i forgot what it's like to ski in 8" of slush. boy, that must be fun!
  5. methinks you exaggerate. even with a snorkel i couldn't ski in 7 feet of pow.
  6. i find glasgowkiss' personality rather refreshing. east-coast-like. a lot of climbers seem to have issues with commitment and it really is annoying to make climbing plans based on someone saying they're going to climb with you only to have them ditch out on you a day or two beforehand ... leaving you hard-pressed to find a replacement and often times in the lurch. wankers indeed!
  7. ha, ha ... definitely not a "natzi" then since i get to enjoy it every day. dammit; i gotta learn to tele in pow, though!
  8. nice k2 promo there!
  9. man, i miss crystal! next time get the snoqualmie avalanche. it's just about the best beer ever!
  10. what exactly is a "snow natzi"?
  11. but aren't metal rulers good for something?
  12. yeah, the living situation here is pretty ideal. when there's enough snow i can ski all the way to the front door of my apartment building. and all that separates me from where i live and where i work is a 4-minute "chondola" ride. or an even shorter ski ... but it's a little too dark (and cold) to do that by the time i get off of work. and no, i don't sling drinks; i look at paper and move numbers around on excel spreadsheets. don't know that guy you mentioned but i'll try to remember to tell him hi for ya if i happen to run into him one of these days. hoping for another 10" tonight ...
  13. shouldn't you party BECAUSE the snow is so good?
  14. ah. well, i guess i got myself a real dedicated probe then. btw, what's the technical point of all those markings besides being able to tell your friends how much pow there was?
  15. you can't be *THAT* sick. stop your whining and go get some pow!
  16. uh ... no. but you're welcome to visit. today was COLD, though. single digits. so bring your puffy jacket!
  17. jim nelson rocks!
  18. not having kids is even cheaper.
  19. what's a "dedicated" probe?
  20. are you strapping this to your back somehow or ... ?
  21. in some cases, buying something you can afford is better than not buying anything at all. i'd feel fine skiing with someone who bought a decent lexan shovel than with someone who didn't have a shovel at all because they were saving up for a titanium one that comes with its own russian bodybuilder to operate it for them.
  22. i just bought one, but i'm curious as to how other people chose the ones they bought. i really wasn't sure what length to get or what features were really necessary or desired. i mean, it's not like there are THAT many choices, but there definitely are some ...
  23. i've got the ortovox that ken4ord is talking about and it has worked fine for me. some say a metal blade is better because it will bite into harder snow easier than a plastic one. and a bigger blade will dig faster. but the plastic blades really work just fine ... and are lighter. and i don't know of anybody who has broken one. you might think about what you want it for and go from there. otherwise, just get one that's within your budget.
  24. i haven't tried cross country skiing yet, but i plan to one of these days. i know there's a track in telluride and i believe there are some trails as well, but i've got my hands - er, thighs - full with telemark turns right now. i was just giving muffy some shit (and she knows it); i wasn't trying to imply anything "bad"' about cross country skiing. i think anything involving snow is worthwhile and to be enjoyed. well, except for perhaps avalanches ... glad you had fun, muffy!
