whoa; that's a long way from seattle! quite a long way from telluride, too. have fun down there. pretty place with pretty okay rock.
-
i have a tip for your first time in powder - a face shot is not the same thing as a face plant.
-
i thought this website was about climbing. overrated is such a subjective term. just go skiing.
-
come to telluride and i'll ski with you. we can rip it up on our new tele gear!
-
cross country? what are you, old?
-
-
twins rock. no pointy ends on my skis, thank you! of course, sometimes i forget which way is forwards and which way is backwards, though. muffy, when are you going skiing???
-
lucky for me i never have to call in sick. not having to go to work until 2pm and living 1.5 minutes from my door to the nearest charlift, i can ski my fill EVERY day.
-
i have a pair of 160's that i've thrashed on for four years now and will hopefully not be using much longer. if you're not in a hurry to have them and not looking for "high performance" skis i'd be happy to give them to you. they're salomon verse 7L's from the 2000/2001 season (i think) and took me from never having skiied to double diamonds in less than five months. i believe they're 107/72/98 (or close to that anyway), so if you're looking for a powder ski you might want to keep looking. but no core shots or f'ed up edges. (i don't really want to part with the bindings, though.)

i've used the big wall ones and LOVED them. it doesn't say on their website ... do the speed ones also have the elastic foot holders?
-
fejas, i'm not sure if they have any of those on vhs at my local library, but i'll look next time in town. (gotta get a freakin' dvd player already, dammit!!!)
-
i'm with ya. never got to bring cupcakes for the class on my birthday either ... since i was never in school!
-
bingo - oops ... that's definitely something i was doing today! thanks for all of the tips so far guys (and gals); i'll definitely give some of them a try in the next couple of days.
-
same as in alpine skiing ... but easier said (and read) than done!
-
wow; i think i need another lesson already! what's the short and sweet for making tele turns in pow? every now and then i would think i was starting to get it but then i'd lose it. and boy do my quads hurt!!!
-
i was originally going to mount the enemies with freerides but they don't make AT boots my size. and i've always wanted to learn to tele anyway ... so that's how that all happened. i've been demo-ing the piste pipes lately (i'm still waiting for my g3 binding cables to show up, and they're just about identical to the enemy except for about 10% of the insides). they seem like great skis so far but i'll have a better opinion after i improve my tele skills enough to start pounding on them. the enemy seems to be the choice of everyday ski for several of the guys in the local shop here. i think they're really underrated and an awesome value if that's the kind of ski you're interested in. k2 makes great skis. volkl, too, but i have slimmer pickings when it come to nice twins since i ski 'em pretty short. never been on a line ...
-
that's a bold statement. i bet there a few teleskiers out there who can give just about any alpine skier a run for their money, but anyway ... you don't ski inbounds because you're a wuss? do you mean you suck so bad you can't fathom having people laughing at you from the chairlifts? i thought high life was a pretty good flick. better than warren's this year anyway. i like to see a little big mountain jibbing.
-
what a great story ehmmic! i tried snowboarding a bit but i just didn't find it even remotely as satisfying as skiing. skiing IS magic!
-
dude, why don't you just put fritschi's on your pocket rockets? i would think breaking trail with skis that are over 90 underfoot would be hell. ugh! (especially in that heavy northwest snow. ) but what do i know? (please don't answer that! )
-
i know super-fat skis are fun for pow ... but they're not so great for touring, eh? (don't know if by backcountry he meant touring, though.)
-
uh ... what is a fop? i can't wait to get out on my new skis. public enemies ... with tele bindings. oh yeah; i'll be backcountry jibbing in no time!
-
you don't really have to worry about learning to drive in the snow ... they have buses for that. i really hope you like skiing. personally, i like it even more than climbing. (GASP!)
-
wow; mtguide sure gave you lots of great resources. just want to add that you should definitely take a lesson from a certified instructor. it will make all the difference in the world. well, maybe not ALL ... but you'll be skiing better and looking better than all of your friends in no time. also, i don' t think you answered bobinc's question about what you wanted to do with your skiing. the first thing you're going to have to do is buy boots. this is the most important thing you're going to do. (taking a lesson is the second most.) what you want to do will determine what kind of boots you get ... or did those come in the box too? (LOL!)
-
along the same lines, but think outside pinky toe - inside heel. pressuring the heel will really help you weight the ski ... and concentrating on those two contact points will help ensure that you get both skis on their correct edges. it sure is fun, eh?

this coming from a guy who tele's at the resort.
