  1. I've got a pair, and they softened up quite a bit with use, so you can use them for general mountaineering. But another, lighter, boot might be better.
  2. Alpine start today? Anyways, I've got a pair of the Ferrata tights and numerous pairs of wind pants. The styling of the MEC tights is pretty square, but they provide insulation (make a good first, or second layer), are abrasion resistant, but are less wind resistant. The tights are actually very much like the old Patagonia rock pants. I'd say they're more practical for climbing (both rock and ice) than shreddable wind pants. Unless you shop at the Goodwill (BTW, you can find some great stuff there if you're persistant). I'm going climbing.
  3. Handspring? Palm Pilot? Are these things worth the money? Do they ever screw up and lose information?
  4. Live with it. The acid has bleached the fibers (at best), so washing won't change anything. At least you've got a beater jacket now.
  5. I was pretty impressed with the dealer I ordered the car through (picked only because it's relatively close to where I live); They are taking $250 over invoice. That's it. The 82 yr old owner is going to Laramie to drive it back, so I guess the profit is mixed in with the fun.

To you breeders out there, hug your kids and tell them you love them, or you could be the freaked parents of these two.
  7. "Dancing for the man ain't where it's at."
  8. Use a lap coil over your belay tie-in (start out with exaggeratedly large loops and shorten with each consectutive loop), or use a pack as a rope bag (for packs with a bivy extension sleeve, simply cinching it separates the rope from the shiznit in your pack).
  9. I ordered a Subaru WRX wagon in apsen white color, short-throw shifter, and some other extra goodies. I'll probably take delivery from Wyoming on the weekend, or next week. I'm stoked to get the car. I sold off a trademark to another company, so that's financing the wheels. I look forward to hitting up a pub club when I roll west over the summer selling Go Zaps functional candy (one of my company's products).
  10. I use silly putty stuff (comes in a fist shaped container).
  11. One of my first rides on my longboard was down a pretty steep hill. After around 40mph I got scared. Some speed wobbles didn't help. I made it though. Coasted to a stop, and dealt with a flood of adrenaline. It was cool.
  12. Thanks for the input. With regard to elevation, the town I live in is at 4500'. I'd like to get a Subaru WRX wagon, but the added upfront cost and increased insurance hurts. But turbo would be kicking to drive. I'll check the Passat and the Nissan. Probably check what Isuzu has as well. Enjoy the holiday.
  13. I like the wagon, but the Jetta hp is only 115 (unless I go turbo, then the insurance does too). Do you know if the back seats fold flat and make enough room to sleep (like 6 feet worth)?
  14. I part with my Dewey-Weber long board (with the sector 9 wheels, oh yea) the day I die. And maybe not even then.
  15. In consideration of the high mileage on the car I drive (it's bound to break down one day soon), I'm searching for a new one. And since RobBob got such great advice about a 4WD SUV, what car would be good? I need to haul three people with gear and bikes, traverse snowy and icy roads (but rarely need high clearance), and get decent mileage. I'm thinking about a Subaru Impreza wagon, VW Jetta wagon (looks kinda gutless, though), or maybe a Toyota Tacoma double cab (but that only comes with automatic tranny which isn't as fun to drive). Any suggestions? thanks for your help.
  16. Very cool to get this on the books. Though in the past, I don't know of any successful lawsuit against a landowner, this will save dollars in attorney and settlement fees.

    Drill Bits

$8 is about what they cost. So it's a fair price.
  18. I got asked while crossing the Winthrop glacier. The two gumby rangers (roped together, leader hiking, second on skis) were returning from a visit to a nearby lake. I didn't have a permit, told them so, and they didn't do anything about it outside of taking down my name and car information. But they did act indignantly and professed that they didn't want "to debate" the permit system (which was odd since I explained that I didn't get one since the office was closed in the wee hours of the morning).
  19. Yea. The skiing and boarding here sucks. Time on the slopes would be okay if it weren't for all the Elders trying to get you to take a free Book.
  20. "It found that laboratory rats exposed to the chemical lost weight and experienced delayed sexual maturation." Explains a lot about the outdoor crowd, doesn't it?
  21. harsh. When I lived in Australia, I participated in a 5-day, 5 summits running competition. Mt Kosciuszko was one of them, so I can attest to the real possibility of being able to get up it in nylon shorts and running shoes. Too bad you got shut down. BTW, Eki got third in the Paris-Roubaix today.
