  1. I hear the Icicle Creek area would be fun this weekend.
  2. I haven't heard of any bird closures at Index (ever), I'd say hit it in the middle of the week to avoid crowds like any other good crag and give it a couple of days to dry out after a good rain, unless you want to experience "authentic" Index climbing. 4. you have some small feet! anyway, I've had mine for a year and really like everything about them. I've done snow slogs to boulder hopping, ice climbing, and some mixed climbing on the NE slab of the TOOTH! They seem to really do everything very well but this was my first pair of real climbing boots so, I don't know what else to compare them to other than my partner's whining about their boots.
  5. Jeremy: It's all about having fun and being safe. Most bivi on the "lunch counter" below pikers peak and leave their bivi gear there while they go make a summit attempt. Like Tim said, the glissade down is one of the best in the cascades. Also - you may want to see if you can get a more experienced climber type to go with you, at over 12,000' bad things happen all the time even on easy terrain. Have fun and be safe.
  6. I've attempted it in May 99 and early Sept 99 May 99 - Hike through snow 8 miles to cold springs campground, bivi halfway between cold springs and lunch counter, get up sunday and go for a burger in Trout Lake. Later heard nobody got past Piker's peak because of high winds. Sept 99 - drive to cold springs, hike up to top and back down in time for a burger at Trout Lake. Depending on what you are after for an experience, (just tag the top or overnighter) anytime between now and september should be fun.
  7. May 8, 1977 The first annual "outdoor intercourse" day. "horay horay for the 8th of May, it's national outdoor intercourse day"
  8. plab ! dru on his 4000 post
  9. I wish someone would vote me off so I could spend more time doing what I really want to do instead of surfing the net, trying to look like I am working. Have a plab weekend !
  10. Are you related to Dan Larson?
  11. it's about 7 threads below this one in the N. Cascades category.
  12. 12 parties all on one route jockeying for passing lanes sound like a serious accident waiting to happen. I don't think you'd catch me near that cluster f@ck at this stage in my climbing career. If you can pass a party confidently I wouldnt mind, I climb kinda slow still and if someone came crusin through in a calm confident manner, I would just sit back for a couple of minutes and try and learn something. Conversly, if you came up below and requested to pass, considering I am already stressed about making too many decisions (is it good pro, are we on route), I'd probably say "nope".

    Haul Bag

EV: I don't know crap about haul bags or aid climbing but, If i was buying one, I'd have to check out Black Diamond's line becasue they are priced a bit better than the one you mentioned. BD Zion: 10,000 ci @ $170.00 Metolius El Cap: 9,600 ci @ $240.00 thier website is www.bdel.com good luck, aid climbing is scary lookin

    Washing a Rope

go climb in the rain and when you rap all of the water/dirt will come out. or wash it in your bathtub with MILD detergent.
  18. Here is something I just recently noticed. BD claims their Camalots are the "strongest camming units available to man" and rated to 16kN (according to the BD catolouge) CCH Aliens are rated to 16.45kN in the latest info from Mountain Gear. Anyone else notice this?? I sure wish CCH made some larger sizes.
  19. Nobody here is really scared of you anyway Mikey. We know a big ol' soft teddy bear when we see one.
  20. quote: Originally posted by Dru: I know the area you are talking about. Total choss but looks good from a distance. Not even worth going there. I heard there are access issues too. Oh and those FAs you have been eying up were probably done back in the 60's but never reported. sounds like a suspicious response to me.

  23. HEY!! be a good newbie - clean and lube your cams once in a while. Dont do like me and wait unitl you are trying to place your first piece 15' off the ground to discover the thing is gummed up and not working while some of your friends/mentors are watching you pound your cam on the rock and plead with it to open - "heh heh, ahh, come on baby, ahh shoot" I used a few drops of heavy duty silicone being careful to wipe off all excess lubrication. Now that I am done, what do you guys use??
  24. It looks like Icegirl got the call for the newest Moderator. Oh well, back to the coal mine.
