  1. black diamond gaper keychain biner. nice belay parka. new danner romeos (maybe my favorite gift).
  2. I think PMS has used one for a while, you might ask him if you haven't already. Personally I think it would last longer than a heavily padded harness, less stuff to wear out. Check out CAMP harnesses too. They have some simple, light and cheap designs.
  3. I hear that none other than Peter Whittaker was consulted on the design of that knife. "eh, just put a clippy thing on the handle" I hear his pa is looking for sponsers to become the oldest codger to ever climb mt. everest.
  4. David, I considered the Blizzard this spring, ordered it and discovered it was almost the same harness as this guy, http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?productId=660378&storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&langId=-1 which I already owned. The only discernable difference was the extra 2" on the waist belt of the blizzard, which wouldn't be a problem even with extra clothing on. So, I sent it back and bought a Petzl, which has its drawbacks, but it's comfy and my wife likes the rei special.
  5. A few years back, I recieved a bow light from my mother. Now I was an avid bow hunter, but, this particular light was green on one side and red on the other. Yep, a BOW light for the BOW of your boat. I didn't say much at first because I know she probably wandered the sporting goods aisle of the hardware store looking for the perfect gift but the thought of trying to sneak up on a deer with the BOW light attached to my bow was too much and I had to say something. Classic Christmas memory.
  6. great, I'll bring my little blue sled for the descent.
  7. our male cat. good mole/mouser, but sprays a lot! The little mofo almost went to the creek in a gunny sack after spraying my tent last summer. Then I realized I now had a good excuse to get a new one.
  8. do the twight rodeo route
  9. hey, I dont have a farmer john suit, but I think that thing is supposed to be your base layer anyway and you layer more clothing over it if conditions are that cold. which would be pretty frickin cold. I've got some 100 wieght bottoms that I've worn with just a shell down to 0 f and been too warm. thats my take on it. (I'm a maniac, mainiac on the flo-o-o-or, and I'm dancin.......)
  10. Like anything else, I think you develop a tolerance for fear and learn to deal with it better as you gain more experience, wheather it's climbing, martial arts, starting your own business, getting married, whatever.....
  11. But using the flag of Stalin (who murdered millions) as your avatar is? Do you think using the flag of a former regime who Americans fought against for a half century as your identification is somehow cute? I sure as hell don't see the humor or appreciate your hypocricy.
  12. hunt and fish more. shop less. some of that farm raised stuff is full of wierdness.
  13. YES AND NO, IT DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH COFFEE I HAVE ON A GIVEN DAY.
  14. erik: read this: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/threadz/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB23&Number=113927&page=6&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1 Then, do sumpthin other than scarin us with your strangeness! c'mon man BUK UP!!!!!!! That ain't the erik I know, the dude I know is intensely decisive and horny and has no time for whining/ers! Personally, I've been trying to disown my family for years and they just keep showing up!! it's driving me crazy!! I think you should take off in her explorer so you'd have some reliable transportation. (FORD!) then get a job throwing dirt with a shovel, then you'd have some sorta perspective on what the hell you are doing. Date some other chicks and see if they would even tolerate some bum who's passionate about being gone with his "hobby" all the time. Think man, THINK!! BUY HIGH SELL LOW........ we all have our issues erik, we just seem normal to the untrained eye.
  15. Altas has a new glove this year with a removeable liner for $16.00 and they aren't that ugly burnt orange that don't match any of my gear. I might try them out. You can find them here: https://ssl2.adhost.com/seamar/merchant.cfm?pid=49301&step=4
  16. Sounds like you might be a good cantidate for some weight trainng if you don't already. Squats, lunges and deadlifts are all good for getting your body ready for hauling ass up the trail.
  17. Bronco

    Fun?

possilby glissading down Mt. Adams or trying to keep up with PMS descending Boston Basin, dodging crevases while performing a beautifully executed standing glissade. Glissading is the funnest.
  18. I know how you feel Iain, someone even gave me a hard time this week for being reluctant to be in the mountains with this weather. hmmmmm who was that PUNK? NO STARS FOR YOU EITHER!!
  19. Gee, you sure did learn a lot while you were there. Better not go in there anymore with him being eccentric and all. I don't think being eccentric and climbing mixes very well either, come to think of it, all of the climbers I've met were very normal and conservative. NO STARS FOR YOU!!!
  20. I'm thinking it's a trick question, someone installed the bolts and then Pete Tapley did the FA. Maybe it was Alex Lowe who put up the route and Pete got the FA?
  21. THAT'S RIGHT, PP, NO STARS FOR YOU!
  22. now look who's talkin smack!
  23. here's the link: http://www.seawfo.noaa.gov/products/SABSEA have fun and don't forget your nitro!
  24. anyone can get the FA and name off of the Hyalite website but, wouldn't the person who put it up be the FA? How 'bout Sharp Dressed Man for the route named for Alex's son, seems like I read/heard that somewhere.
  25. how can you know what conditions were? I know some people who have climbed Rainier in winter and carried their ice axes and crampons up and down with out using them once. While it ads an element of risk, it is possible that she made the concious decision not to use them. Personally I wouldn't make the same decision, but, some people are more into risk than I am comfortable with. why don't you e-mail her and ask her for her resume if you're so curious? it's possible she's done a lot more climbing than you think. Just because she's not climbing by the book, doesen't mean she's dangerous or stupid IMO.
