dont forget about the $20.00 straps sold seperately. Peter, I strongly recomend you consider the stubai aluminum crampon for general mountaineering and approach. There are many options in the $100 range. like these Unfortunatly I purchased some smc's early in my climbing career, used them a couple of times and sold them to a friend who doesen't use them much. They are slow to put on and will inhibit circulation if you don't have an extreemly stiff boot. I know, I know, people used them for along time on big mountains and they work, but, the point is, there are better 'pons available for the same price. If you are determined to get the SMC's Second Ascent usually has a half dozen pairs on sale for $50ish with the straps. I never did like those strapons.

what happened to Courtnay? Did we get dumped? Anywho- stacking in that manner is great for getting your neurological and nervous systems in order for pushing your limits. I agree with freeclimb's assesment that your physical gains won't be as great as if you were letting your muscles fully recover, but stacking is also important to do if you can't get out at least one day a week for actual climbing. I have trained in that manner when I can't climb and had pretty good results. I also managed to cut some weight doing that workout and think it was muscle so you may want to consider a protien supplement for right after the workout, (beer does not count).

getting there is the problem in these conditions, terrain below/near pan point is more apt to sliding than the snow field.

one pair of orange size large atlas freezer gloves. either near Bozeman last Febuary or lost in my swamp below my house. It's possible they are under all my climbing gear but, I haven't seen them in a while.

Ade: I picked up "Mental Toughness Training for Sports" by James Loehr at a used book store a couple of years ago. For me it helped more with working through cruxes on rock climbs which I think is different than the stress encountered on a long alpine climb that builds up for hours. You are welcome to borrow it. The information is a little dated and about as fun as reading a text book, so it's good bedtime reading. Let me know if you want it (or anybody for that matter).

scarpa mescalito, I think Sierra Trading post has them for $129.00 or so, about half price. I used a pair this summer for approachs and up to 5.7 climbing. probably work good for standing in aiders, they have a pretty stiff sole.

I remember the day we took my sister's '78 honda accord duck hunting, we got stuck badly while mud boggin in a farmer's field until we put the "mud" chains on. Works like a charm. You don't ever want to have to ask a farmer to come pull your car out of the mud after you just finished beggin permision to hunt his property.

I think PMS has used one for a while, you might ask him if you haven't already. Personally I think it would last longer than a heavily padded harness, less stuff to wear out. Check out CAMP harnesses too. They have some simple, light and cheap designs.
