Can't stand either one. But let's face it: some of the 'tards around here absolutely need someone to hate.

political hatreds are hardly unipartisan - jesus, to hear the loudest on your side talk the past 3 years, obama is a leftist extremist socialist who wants all yer guns in addition to yer white girls, despite the overwhelming evidence during htat time that he's a ball-less moderate :)

Better to blame libtards for destroying their candidates while stoking fear of the Red Menace than admit they haven't had a fucking clue since the early 90's. Hey, that's about when Gnewt came along...weird.

The Washington Post quotes an unnamed Republican adviser who compared what happened to Mr. Cain, when he suddenly found himself leading in the polls, to the proverbial tale of the dog who had better not catch that car he’s chasing. “Something great and awful happened, the dog caught the car. And of course, dogs don’t know how to drive cars. So he had no idea what to do with it.”

The same metaphor, it seems to me, might apply to the G.O.P. pursuit of the White House next year. If the dog actually catches the car — the actual job of running the U.S. government — it will have no idea what to do, because the realities of government in the 21st century bear no resemblance to the mythology all ambitious Republican politicians must pretend to believe. And what will happen then?

Remember the days of professionalism, when people actually trained for the job?

Roosevelt: Fixed the Depression and won WWII

Eisenhower: Beat the Germans

Kennedy, Nixon, Johnson, Truman, Obama: Former Senators

Carter, Reagan, Clinton, Bush: Former Governors

Cain: Ran Godfather's Pizza and the National Restaurant Association.

For some reason, a lot of conservatives seem to think corporate experience translates into politics and governance well. Remember how popular Perot was? Problem is, these people don't realize the government is not an enterprise! d'oh!

isn't it cute? ;) I guess when you're a hammer, everything you see is a nail.

Sooner or later you libtards are gonna run out of candidates you can use as mirrors to reflect your own self loathing and unfulfilled dreams. Well, maybe not.

As long as there are Repulicans, we "libtards" will always have plenty of fodder for ridicule. It's too easy!

You left Gerry Ford out of that list. Not a Senator or Governor, but a long-time member of the House of Representatives.

But I do get your point.

From Cain's campaign site:

"I was not surprised that I was viciously attacked once I rose in the polls. I was surprised by the nature of the attacks. Me, a womanizer? I would never have thought they’d come up with that one. But I knew the establishment would not like the idea of my success, because I will not get along by going along like so many do....

.... The process by which we choose our nation’s leader is ridiculous. There is little focus on policy substance and even less on candidates’ governing skills....

....All I need to do now is advocate for solutions that work, under the auspices of TheCainSolutions.com, and that will have two essential elements.

One is to better educate the American people about the nature of the problems we face. There is still too little understanding of the severity of our debt and fiscal crisis. That is why members of Congress lack the political will to solve the problem. They perceive that they will pay a steeper price for taking action than they will pay for doing nothing. That is no excuse for such poor leadership, but the fact remains that if we can change the political dynamic – so that the people are demanding action rather than rewarding inaction – we will be able to change the results.

The second element is to advocate for solutions that actually work. I was amused by the criticism I received for frequently mentioning my 9-9-9 tax reform, particularly by those who referred to it as a “catch phrase” and so forth, clearly demonstrating that they didn’t grasp what it’s all about. The 9-9-9 plan is the biggest transfer of power from government back to the people since the beginning of this nation. That’s what they are afraid of."
