Thinker Posted September 4, 2002 Posted September 4, 2002 or where should he climb? [ 09-04-2002, 10:06 AM: Message edited by: Thinker ] Quote
Thinker Posted September 4, 2002 Author Posted September 4, 2002 but seriously, what routes would someone who has the whole world open to him want to climb when in the area? He'll obviously be doing some laps at Vantage and Squamish, based on his event schedule....but what lies hidden in the General's cauldron of desire? Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted September 4, 2002 Posted September 4, 2002 Who cares I am going to send the Lizard at Index straight up butt lips chimney and have a better time doing that than worrying about some dude I never met and what he wants to climb. Maybe he'll be real hard and try to free City Park or something. Quote
Thinker Posted September 4, 2002 Author Posted September 4, 2002 Well....you're awfully darned crotchety this morning! Kinda sounds like you do have a hangover. Bear with us who have to work for the man all week long and our little mental indulgences to help the time pass. Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted September 4, 2002 Posted September 4, 2002 Your mind is small if that's all you can think about. Crotchety is that something like where your mouth is in that photo for avatar. Right on someone's crotchety Quote
Thinker Posted September 4, 2002 Author Posted September 4, 2002 Yeah, I thought you'd eventually recognize your momma's shade of lipstick. [ 09-04-2002, 10:55 AM: Message edited by: Thinker ] Quote
Thinker Posted September 4, 2002 Author Posted September 4, 2002 Look, Cavey's artwork inspired by his last date with his mom. Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted September 4, 2002 Posted September 4, 2002 Last time El General rolled through Smith Rock, the Doc ran into him catching a TR on Darkness at Noon, pretty much just chilling out and having a good time. Seems like just being at any given area for a day doesn't give you enough time to go after projects and shit. Quote
Dru Posted September 4, 2002 Posted September 4, 2002 Didnt Kurt put up a few sprotroutes on Picnic Lunch wall back in the 80's? Suicidal Tendencies area or something? Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted September 4, 2002 Posted September 4, 2002 Yep. Suicidal Tendencies and Touch (?), .11d and .11c (or .11a? Have to consult the CGSR), both done ground-up. They're actually pretty good routes, although no one ever climbs them. Quote
RURP Posted September 4, 2002 Posted September 4, 2002 This is RURP. You guys sound like a bunch of pathetic groupies! Where will Mr. Kurt Smith climb? Who cares...get your own lives. "Hello! I wonder what "Chris" and "Lynn" (etc. and whoever the favorite cereal of the week is), is having for breakfast...I am going to get some of that too!" Whatever happened to Mr. "Scott" Franklin and Mr. "Christian" Griffith? You call them by their first-names alone because if we are hip and in the know we can do that. Like "Cher". There are two answers to this "important" whatever happened question: The first is, they went to sport-climbing oblivion. The second is: who cares?! RURP has spoken. Quote
RURP Posted September 4, 2002 Posted September 4, 2002 This is RURP: I just read the above describing this Mr. Kurt Smith as: "someone who has the whole world open to him". He is some sort of sporty climber and he has "the whole world open to him"!!!! This cascadeclimbers.com is beginning to sound like some sort of odd Dungeons and Dragons fantasy role-playing game, with the dungeon being in the basement of your mother's house! RURP has spoken. RuMR Posted September 4, 2002 Posted September 4, 2002 RURP... you're bein' a bird beak tool on this...Kurt Smith has put up some pretty wild/dangerous trad routes in his day... Quote

He's done a lot of work establishing lines in Portero and sport climbs up to .13+ in Rifle and other places. Never met the dude but seems like a geeky guy. Obviously he is a good rock climber. Quote
tsk_tsk_tsk Posted September 5, 2002 Posted September 5, 2002 I particularly like the story about how he took a dump on the windshield of a car owned by a guy who was drilling and bolting some route in Yosemite....musta been back in his hardcore trad days/ folly-of-youth thing. Quote
allthumbs Posted September 5, 2002 Posted September 5, 2002 Well speaking of stories, where'd you come up with that crazy shit about trolls and such? Drinking the bong water again? Quote
tsk_tsk_tsk Posted September 5, 2002 Posted September 5, 2002 I plagurized every single word from here. I'm still laughing about the urinating spree. [ 09-04-2002, 05:13 PM: Message edited by: tsk tsk tsk ] Quote
RURP Posted September 5, 2002 Posted September 5, 2002 This is RURP: That guy said: "RURP...you're bein' a bird beak tool on this...Kurt Smith has put up some pretty wild/dangerous trad routes in his day..." Big Deal....so have a lot of guys. Groupies, I say. RURP has spoken. Quote
Thinker Posted September 5, 2002 Author Posted September 5, 2002 quote: Originally posted by RURP: Groupies, I say. RURP has spoken.[/QB] Groupie....I think not. I'm the same guy who posted this : "Check out this link and crunch the numbers for yourself: Kurt's 2001 tour summary Kurt did 68 events across the country in 2001, and brought in a whoppin $24,000 for the access fund. (That's an average of $353 per event for those of you too stoned to divide.) And depending on how much the sponsors kicked in (RockList.com, Ropegun, Rock and Ice, and Black Diamond, etc.), each one may have been a net loss for the AF (compared to if the sponsors had donated directly to the AF). Now I certainly haven't raised even a single dollar for the AF, and with all due respect for the man, his tour appears to be a big climbing roadtrip he can write off. Hopefully it will catch on and take off here, generating a little more $$ in 2002." My post here was simply a way to pass time and open up a (debatably) interesting topic for conversation. You gotta admit, the guy is colorful. Quote
