Digital Music - organizing

I’ve finally gotten around to organizing my music collection on a server. Currently I‘ve about 35k tracks. Mostly the files are FLAC although some are mp3. A few APE files will be converted to FLAC. The CDs were tagged when I converted them to FLAC; however, I have a fairly large number of FLAC files of live shows (mostly Dead) that I would like to tag. I’ve found some programs that tag from txt files but haven’t found a program that can be set to march thru and tag a large collection in one batch. Does any one have any recommendation of a program that can do this? Tagging one show at a time will take forever!

 

Any suggestions for directory structure?

I just use a couple milk crates and put all my LPs in them. For you youngsters these are kinda like CDs but larger and made from black vinyl.

I recently lost a digital copy of Desmond Decker's "The Israelites". Life sucks. This never use to happen with records. Unless you loaned them out.

1) Download iTunes. It will create your artist/album/song directory structure.

2) Download a converter to convert your unsupported file formats to iTunes supported ones. Don't worry about maintaining lossless formats; you're too fucking old to tell the difference anymore.

3) iTunes will organize that shit for you either automatically or in an assisted fashion.

 

I only advise this very quick and relatively obvious solution because i know you'll do the opposite, which will take you days, and that will make the baby Jebus smile.

Either way, iTunes is not really gonna do for him what he wants. Hell, I could be talked into tagging that shit for you if you let me have a copy of each track. Except for the ones with Donna Godchaux. There is no excuse for her horrendous off-key banshee screeching. How could they even put up with that?

If his music is like mine I had to manually sort a large portion of my library in Itunes. Its still not done and I've spent considerable time on it.
