goatboy Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Cool. Great to see so many fundraisers on behalf of Index. By the way, has any Northwest climber had his name misspelled more often than Fred "Becky?" Quote

jon Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Just wanted to bump this great event. My apologizes to Tod at Edgeworks for not getting this on our front page sooner! Quote
olyclimber Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Also Tod should have copies of the North Cascade National Park poster available for sale, so you can pick one up! Quote
goatboy Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Can't make the show, but if anyone is willing to get me a few of the posters, I'd be much obliged. PM me if you're going to the show and are willing to pick some up to bring back to Seattle. Will provide beer as thanks. Quote
OlympicMtnBoy Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Fred was blissfully unaware of this show when I talked to him at the Timmy O'Neil show and showed him the flyer. I'm sure his agent will get him there and give all the Tacoma folks a chance though! Quote
mattp Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Fred was "blissfully" aware of the show when I talked to him. I think his main problem at the O'Neil event was that he has a hard time hearing when there is a lot of background noise and, like most people who are hard of hearing, is uncomfortable saying "What? I can't hear you." Fred will get himself there, I suspect. Quote
olyclimber Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Fred will be there. He has a knack for it. Be sure to heckle him! Quote
sklag Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Hey would you be willing to pick one up for me? I'll pay you handsomely. Quote

Beyond that we'll announce availability as supply lasts. Quote
Fairweather Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Good show covering all of North America. Some of his slides are fading out. I hope he can find time to digitize/restore them some day. Quote
markwebster Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Fred was great! I'd seen his slideshow back in the eighties and he hasn't lost his touch. I was kind of worried, thinking an old guy couldn't pull it off but he was amazing. He has a mind like a steel trap...pulling the names of all those peaks out of thin air. He clearly deserves the fame, he can talk the walk, and he has walked the talk. I actually had just as much fun watching his face as he talked about all the amazing slides of the deep mountain backcountry. He was so casual: "Yeah, we flew in to the glacier and stayed there for 3 weeks doing first ascents...we climbed this new route at night to avoid avalanches...etc". That one series of slides showing the first acent of Mt Deborah? by McKinley? They climbed up the 5 mile knife edged corniced ridge, then they climbed back down it, taking pictures all the way...old canvas metal framed GI packs. First ascent. That man is amazing. He must have some kind of incredible lucky rabbits foot to have survived all that. I think I'll send a nice little check to the index fund. He said they are trying to raise $300,000 from climbers. Seems unlikely, but maybe when rei and the other big boys see that we are willing to pay what we can from our pockets, they will come up with the balance. It worked with the Peshastin Pinnacles. selkirk Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Does anyone know what current total is on the fund? Last I heard it was up to ~110k, but that was before the Edgeworks and Timmy O'Neil events. So far so good Quote
shapp Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Thread Rezerection - Becky vs. Chouinard Becky would f*** chounaird with one of his own long dong pitons and steal his woman to boot! Quote
