olyclimber
Ents. Once, when driving out to Port Townsend (cruising at about 60 mph) I noticed a small branch out of the corner of my eye almost hitting the windshield, and then heard brushing the rear window. I looked in the rearview and there was an alder tree across the road I had just driven on, about 3 feet in diameter. Later that month I read in the paper that a person was killed when a tree randomly fell on them on the Kitsap Peninsula. Also, would you like to be out in the woods when this puppy snapped? This thing was about 4-4.5 feet in diameter, and had core rot except the outer foot of the tree:
G-spotter
There's a huge exploded tree out in Hope right next to Mike's sport wall. It looks like a bomb went off in the phloem and xylem.

Pete_H
It might be next week before he gets through it. There weren't a lot of pictures and many of the words had more than two syllables.
RuMR
hahaha...he'll definitely get stumped by dru's words...xylum, isn't that some kind of musical instrument in a van halen song??? or phloem...that'll stump him...he'll have to call pinkeye to figger that one out... AlpineK
The meristem produces both xylem and phloem. Old phloem turns into the periderm, and old xylem turn into heartwood. Are any of those Van Halen songs? or Eddy solos???
Choada_Boy
I just coughed up a big wad of phloem.
