telemarker Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) Trip: Colchuck Cirque - Backbone Ridge Date: 6/27/2009 Trip Report: Wow. Busy weekend out in the alpine. Matt and I had our own fun. Besides Liberty Crack last yer, this was his first ever long venture into the alpine environs. Climb went off really well. Flawless day. A tidy 8 hours on route and 9pm, headlamp-less return to the car had me smiling. Some photos: Gear Notes: Med. rack to 3.5" Edited June 30, 2009 by telemarker Quote
telemarker Posted June 30, 2009 Author Posted June 30, 2009 oh, and also found this near the bottom of the route: One Merrell Siren Sport, US sz 10,left with a superfeet bed. I'd be happy to send it back to its owner... Quote
mountainsloth Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 nice work. i was thinking of backbone as a follow-up to serpentine. How are the 5.9 pitches, esp. the o/w? Quote
telemarker Posted June 30, 2009 Author Posted June 30, 2009 Thanks. Good job on your climbs up there! Not trying to be smug, but the off-width carries more hype than it deserves. For example the o/w pitch on Prusik's Burgner/Stanley, also rated 5.9 feels much more desperate than Backbone's o/w. On backbone, it's low-angled, has great features for the right foot, you can fit your entire left thigh in the crack and use it as a cam, so much so that I've quit bringing the #6 Camalot because it's useless after this one pitch. The rest of the climbing on Backbone is fun and well-protected! Quote
olyclimber Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Cool pics, looks fun. Don't you wish the longer days were in the fall so the larches were perfectly tuned too? Thanks! Quote
pink Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 that pic with the reflection was the coolest, very nice. Quote
olyclimber Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Pink, come on out here. Lets do this. You can lead all the hard pitches. Quote
mountainsloth Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 thanks for the info telemarker! fantastic reflection pic! Quote
Kyle_Flick Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Beta overload on the offwidth. All sense of mystery dispelled. Time to return to the climbing gym. Quote
telemarker Posted June 30, 2009 Author Posted June 30, 2009 Beta overload on the offwidth. All sense of mystery dispelled. Time to return to the climbing gym. If Wenatchee had a gym, I'd give up outdoor climbing altogether. Just sack up and lead it without the #5! So, which route are you doing this Friday again??!! Zonk, just wait for my Colchuck/Dragontail traverse TR. Quote
Bug Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 We need more pics of Colchuck lake. But be more imaginative. Get a fish surfacing or something. Quote
ZONK Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Telemarker, You do good climbs, and climb well from what I read. But how many TR's do we need on the same route ? Quote
Doug Smith Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Amazing pictures. Thanks for sharing them. Quote
tanstaafl Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Telemarker, You do good climbs, and climb well from what I read. But how many TR's do we need on the same route ? Yeah Telemarker why don't you post some personal insults or political analysis or your opinion of what ought to done about health care or a picture of a fat housecat? That's the kind of thing that would really add some VALUE to this site! Quote

Kyle_Flick Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 I've got unpublished TRs up the gazoo for the South Face of Prusik and Backbone/Serpentine which will thankfully remain unpublished. Telemarker, I'm bringing the #5 as I'm experiencing shrinkage thinking about offwidth runout. Quote
spotly Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 (edited) I enjoy reading about other people's experiences, even if it's on a route I've done (haven't done this one...yet) or one that's been written about by a dozen others. More is better. Nice TR. Thanks. Edited July 1, 2009 by spotly Quote
spiderman Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Nice TR John. I love the photo's, keep em coming. Quote
telemarker Posted July 1, 2009 Author Posted July 1, 2009 I find myself reading TR's on routes that have been posted dozens of times too. I don't mind, so I'll keep spewing them out too. Bug: No fish in the lake, but you didn't notice the deer in the first pic? Quote
fredrogers Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Pfft to the haters. I love to see the pics if even it's a route with plenty of TRs- the one of Dragontail in the lake was sublime. Quote
Tokogirl Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Bug: No fish in the lake, but you didn't notice the deer in the first pic? Deer - far left, where the first boulder meets the lake. Nice pictures John! Way to enjoy a great day in the Enchantments. Quote
