Mtguide Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 I think if anyone-the Federal govt, the US Army, Marines, etc.,-- had tried to strip the Idaho and Montana Nat'l. Guard of their weapons, we would already have heard of it by now, because it would have started a civil war. I don't think you'd want to lightly go mess with those homegrown country boys, no sir. OMG! LOL! Â I've been to Montana 7 times,2 times with a girl i was dating to visit her clan in Butte,it was legal to drink and drive(open container) in town tell 1983 or 84? Hell they had drive-though bars, whore houses, and single wide trailers on the side of the road with 3 foot tall Neon Lights on their roofs that read "BAR" and some had pool tables! My frist trip was in 1977,we spopped at a Store to restock are road beer cooler and were told you had to buy beer at the liquor store, but they had three walls of liquor? If you got catch speeding 5-350mph over the limit you payed the cop $5.00 and your good to go,and at night trucks were allowed to dive 5 mph faster then cars? Â I'am sure some thing have changed for i've not been there sicne 1982,but the old joke about the guy who moves to Motana and his neibor invites him to a party,so the guy ask what kind of party? The neibor replies theres going to be some drinking, some fighting, and then alot of sex! The guy ask whos going to be there? And the neibor replies just you and me!! Â BTW there are Bull riding clubs all over the U.S.,one in Vancouver,WA. Â I had great times in Montana 77-82 drinking in the "BARS",and there were some big boys who looked as if they could eat two bales of hay a day! Never got in fights but watched alot of them, most were over some 14 or 15 year old girl for they let anyone in the bars back then. As for Idaho,Stateline was mostly filled with under aged kids from Washington so you would run in to alot of old friends, but i loved Sun Valley lodge and Ketchum, you could buy a drink at one Saloon, walk out the door with drink in hand, walk in to the next one finish your drink and order more! How they kept track of glass ware was beyond me? Â Back then the drinking age was 18 in Montana,Idaho was 19,and in 82 i moved to Hawaii it was 18,and the lounges stayed open tell 4am. Bug Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Yeah the truth is, I don't miss Montana all that much. I don't think there was much inbreading. Just bad gene pools compounded by long days on a tractor. I loved having a mountain range to myself but when I got down into town, there were too many rednecks. Funny thing was, they mostly came from other parts like California. Â When I was little, people used to stop and help each other. It was pretty much live and let live unless you took off with someone's daughter. Now you're likely to get hit by a beer bottle for being stopped on the highway. Â Quote
pc313 Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Butte was notorious for rednecks beating up long hairs, but in 77 i had hair down to the middle of my back and had no problems! Â Robert Craig Knievel was from Butte and worked in the mines before he became Evil Knievel. Quote
