I feared this....

We have National Guard fighting in Iraq. When they come back wounded, they get none of the long term benefits that regular military get.

They are literally left to rot.

Meanwhile we have regular military deployed inside the US.

Good system eh?

Who thinks up these nightmares?

At least socialism thinks about society as people. Our government could not give a rat's ass about people. Not even soldiers. It is about fiduciary responsibility.

Sold out to the biggest wallet.

Communism is something all together different. Communism is where everything is put in the pot and then redistributed. The main problem with that is the same problem we are experiencing with unregulated financial markets. Power corrupts. Without that little quirk the Soviet Union would still be alive and well and Greenspan would still be a hero.

It pains me to know that people like Scott who really beleive in what they are doing, are being used as pawns in a money grab.

Oh, and let us all know why these tax rates are 'ridiculous'.

Look at the proportion of taxes in this country paid by the highest 2% richest people in this country. And to further increase that proportion? I don't make that much but I believe that the drive to make yourself better and to better your situation is what runs this country (or did in the past) to take that away can only derail our progress as a nation and the foundation that made us the Superpower that we are/were.

We won't be a SUPERPOWER anymore? OH NO!

I think we became a SUPERPOWER! by surviving WWII: the luck of geography, a very progressive tax policy, and a strong middle/working class made that possible, not a bunch of speculative Wall Street assholes.

Asshole.

Ok, I don't log in here that often, and choose to engage in these senseless debates even less. However, whenever I do I find you spewing out an endless list of insults. Take this post for example. "Asshole" etc. You seem to have carte blanche around her to rain down "F bombs, idiots, assholes, morons, etc".

It goes both ways. Or does it moderator?

it's the wild-west around here, esse - pretty much anything goes 'cept threatening folks, as it should be. as noted, calling folks poo-poo heads can lose your posts style points, but on rare occasions it does add to their hilarity. in the end, it's not like you're gonna change anybody's mind, so you might as well have some fun w/ the assholes, no?

The question is Alkoholeke, what do you not fear. Commies, Ay-rabs, Obama, liberals, America's erectile dysfunction, etc., etc., etc. Being scared of everything is kind of like your trademark.

I fear no man. If you are such the brave one, why not come with me on my next go 'round? I will save a 'chute for you. Don't worry; packed it myself.

Like you, watching some guy who every time he disagrees with anything and who thinks he's anonymous, starts every post with a rude personal attack that if he did that in person would see his ass handed to him and give him some teeth to pick up while he thought it over, is painful for me too.

ps, glad to see you on the board anytime Mike. It adds balance.

There are many who would trust you to do that, myself included.

But with all due respect to your convictions and actions, your politics are old-world.

Reaganomics does NOT work. It has been proven by Reagan (record deficits,)GB senior (still higher deficits), Clinton (who did NOT use supply-side economics and ended his last term with a huge surplus), and now GW in a blazing economic tailspin and a 1.6 Trillion dollar deficit.

Deregulation was the worst economic disaster since the great depression.

Taxing the middle class at a higher rate than the upper class ($250K and above) is economic suicide. The last 40 years have been spent trying to build up the global middle class to ensure a stable economy. Japan, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea and on and on, are great examples. GW and his crew tried to take it back. No, they did take it back in oil tax give-aways, corporate loopholes, executive branch defunding of education, infrastructure, and economic developement. That is why almost every state in the union now has a deficit. GW is taking the money from the middle class and putting in the pockets of the rich, multinational corporations. That is not socialism. That is theivery. Socialism would be if he gave it back to some other part of the same society.

I think Ivan's hit the nail on the head. It does go both ways, and you're certainly welcome to engage in name calling (in Spray anyway), but unless it's spectacularly inventive and very clever it doesn't do much to make a case. It's all mostly internet masturbation anyway, I don't know that anyone's opinion is ever changed by one of these brouhahas.

I never thought I'd be so eager to have an election over with so we can go back to arguing about bolts. :laf:

Woah woah woah. No-one suggested this at all. It is just that a very small minority of the people in this country pay for the vast majority of the budget. I am against increasing this interval as there has to be a limit. Every president says they are going to do this. If they keep doing this, eventually, the motivation to take a higher stress, higher hour job will lose its appeal as the salary is negligably better than middle management.

Or, what will happen is what has already happened; Inflated salaries to offset the steadily increasing taxes payed by this group of citizens.

I don't think tax rates has ANYTHING at all to do with the inflated salararies of the CEO set. If taxes were a consideration, bonuses would not be as huge as they are.
