skibum1087 Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Have the mountains around Leavenworth been getting any snow in the past week or so? I was planning on heading up the west ridge of stuart or something on dragontail this weekend and was wondering if I should expect to encounter any of the white stuff on route. Thanks Quote
Sol Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 no snow. Â windy in the alpine on monday but tuesday was pretty damn ideal. Â the larch's are starting to change. Quote
dberdinka Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 Come on Sol where's the "Der Sportsman" TR? Quote
rbw1966 Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 We did the west ridge last weekend. We were snowed upon for about the last two hours of the climb itself but it wasn't sticking to the rock. It warmed up into rain for almost the entire descent. There was some ground accumulation around the upper Cascadian but I suspect it all melted out pretty quickly. Quote
skibum1087 Posted September 29, 2008 Author Posted September 29, 2008 (edited) We headed up to Stuart this weekend, and just a heads up to others, contrary to popular belief the snow has been sticking to the rock. But the route was still super enjoyable, and the snow just made it slightly more sporting. Â Â Â Edited September 29, 2008 by skibum1087 Quote
ivan Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Â dunno what route you were doing, but whatever it was, it oughta be redubbed "coke-whore's delight!" Quote
kevino Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Here's a little update from this weekend: Â A lot of the gullies and cracks and such were filled with ice and snow on the N side of Prusik Peak. So plan accordingly. We left another sling and biner to do one more rap so we didn't have to deal with more icy down climbing. Quote
CollinWoods Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Looks like fun, man i need to get out there. Quote
Dan_Miller Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Hardman on the W Ridge, note the "bare hands." Â Good work! Quote
pope Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Icicle Ridge (at 6800 ft) was nearly snow-free Sunday. Quote
kevino Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 snow on stuart  judging by the surrounding hills, looks like snow level was around 3-4k feet. sweeeeeet Quote
Tokogirl Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 (edited) Yep, according to the weather station on Tumwater Mtn.(4,278) it got down to 29 for several hours last night/this morning. There was a nice white glow to the peaks - hinting at a pinkish, mauve hue this morning! Edited October 22, 2008 by Tokogirl Quote

Sol Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 does anyone know what conditions on SCW looks like? this weekend looks cold but well see. Â there is a dusting of snow on top that hasn't melted in the last couple of days. Quote
kevino Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Report from the weekend: Â There is some ice on dragontail and colchuck, though mostly up high and thin. The only line that really looks continuous is the one between TC and backbone. I heard some big ice/rock fall saturday after noon. Â Around 6500-7K the snow gets annoying on aasgard pass. Once on top the snow is continuous, pretty deep to hard crust. It was windy as all hell satuday night and sunday morning. Â Mt. Stuart was completely covered in white. Sherpa looked like fun. Quote

It should be visible from Aasgard Pass. Quote
kevino Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Yeah I got a good look. Looked like thin sugary snow down low, with maybe some ice up top? But it was continuous. Weather was pretty warm this weekend, so melt cycle going on now. And start tuesday/wednesday temps are suppose to drop up there to below freezing during night and day so perhaps more will form. eldiente Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Does anyone know if the gate is still open? How far can you drive for the Colchuck trail head? I'm thinking of doing some recon this weekend. Â -Nate Quote
DPS Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Hey Nate, Â Please let us know how it looks and how far you can drive. Â Thanks, Â Dan Quote
eldiente Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Will do. I'm still trying to decide if I'll make it up there or not. I'm a tad lazy so the decision would be a lot easier to make if I knew the road was open. Looks like a bit of snow is coming in on Thursday so it could change. Quote
