JoshK Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 http://www.rei.com/product/751940 Nevermind the fact that there is somebody dumb enough to pay $20 for a company to tie two knots, but how scary would it be to see your climbing partner whip out pre-tied prusik cords? Quote
rob Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 (edited) What kind of knot is that, anyway? Doesn't look like a double-fisherman. Are the tails sewn to the cord? Weird. * not for use as an anchor huh? Edited September 19, 2008 by rob Quote
sobo Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Certainly doesn't look like a DF to me, neither. And the tails are definitely stitched to the standing end. Be the first to review this product. The gym rats must not have cashed their paychecks yet. Quote
DPS Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 What kind of knot is that, anyway? Doesn't look like a double-fisherman. Re-traced figure eight. Kind of like a water knot, but using a figure eight. Had a partner that liked to tie the rappel ropes together that way. Quote
JoshK Posted September 19, 2008 Author Posted September 19, 2008 "Weight per foot 4 ounces " "Two pre-tied 6mm cords are 28 inches (72mm) and 47.5 inches (120mm) in length" That's over 1.5 lbs for 2 loops of cord? Seems a bit heavy... Quote
letsroll Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 the plastic sheeth over the knot is so worth the $20. I am going to get a pair today. Quote
sobo Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 You could accomplish the same thing with electrician's shrink-wrap. Just make sure you turn up the blowtorch real high... Quote

I've never used a retraced F8 in that application. Quote
lazyalpinist Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Called a Flemish Bend. (Essentially a rewoven figure 8.) Supposed to be easier to untie after loading than a double fisherman's. Also supposed to not get snagged as much. I haven't used it enough to determine the snagging, and how much are you loading a rap rope anyways? Quote
kevino Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 how often are you re-tying your prusiks anyway? Quote
EWolfe Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I would just like to take this opportunity to say how much I hate REI Quote
DirtyHarry Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Why? They take back your gear after you wear it out. What's not to love? And REI isn't the only place that sells those BTW. Quote
mkporwit Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 And hey, if people are stupid enough to buy this stuff for $20, then Metolius will just keep on making it. Quote
korup Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Yeah, saw those a few weeks ago at the Issy store. Dumb as tits on a boar. Quote
Choada_Boy Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 "Fucking Stupid Idea". They'll come in real handy when you need some tat to bail off of. Quote
G-spotter Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 If they rebranded them as ligatures and made them in black velvet they could sell for a lot higher than $20 a pop Quote
mkporwit Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 True dat... call them back-country bondage accessories and sell them next to the hand-cranked margarita blender and the other crap they seem to carry these days. Quote
mkporwit Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 hand-cranked margarita blender I'm not kidding. I'm pretty sure I've seen this at REI before... Quote

mkporwit Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Yes, I'm sure your trips to Lightning Dome will never be the same again Quote
sobo Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I just ordered one online. I paid the extra $hipping to be sure it got here for next weekend's training. Quote
