AlpineK Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Were they stinking up the mountains with smoke? Quote
sobo Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I count no less than 30 people in that pic. I thought party size in MRNP was limited to twelve? Quote
cms829 Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 holy hell batman. it is limited to 12. but guided party's may hold a higher limit....i dont really know. Â is this a recent pic? Quote
Raindawg Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I would assume that this is a group of the Mounties who often use the lower Nisqually for their crevasse rescue practices. Experienced instructors? That's a whole seperate issue! Quote
scot'teryx Posted June 27, 2008 Author Posted June 27, 2008 Photo was taken last Saturday. Â Might have been 3 groups of 12 that met up later? Quote

Experienced instructors? That's a whole seperate issue! Â It's Trad Guy leading a Trad Mountaineering class. The head end is testing cell reception with the tail end. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW Quote

olyclimber Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Alpinfox has a similiar picture in his house...taken a long time ago on some mountain. its cool...look at all those people who are interested in climbing. with experienced instructors of course. Â for me such an experience would not be ideal. i much prefer a party the maximum size of 3. i like a more personal experience, i go to the mountains to escape crowds, not be in them. Quote
AlpineK Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I remember going out on the Nisqually glacier with a Mountaineer group to learn crevasse rescue. This was back in the 70s and our group had a couple hundred folks in it. Â You can't get a permit to do that these days. Quote

So would that equate to 1 instructor and 2 students? Could take a while to cycle the whole class through the module, hmm? Â [GAPER WARNING] Â Since this seems as good a place as any to interject this, CWMR will conclude its Basic Mountaineering Class this Saturday with much of the same as what you see in the OP pic (except the class size is 18 and 6 instructors, and we will be split up into two groups and separated). We will also be on the Nisqually. Â [/GAPER WARNING] Â On Sunday, the unit members of CWMR will hold their own unit training for the use of litters in crevasse work. Maximum party size will be 12 souls. Well, 11 souls and me, for I have no soul. Â Quote
Jens Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Classic Seattle, Tacoma, or Everett Branch Mounties! Quote
olyclimber Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 as i said sobo, its my preference. some people do feel safer in numbers or don't have friend who can teach them. i was once in the same boat, and was lucky enough to meet some cool people who taught me the basics. Quote
sobo Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I understand, Porter. I'm just playing Devil's Advocate witcha. After all, I have no soul, and therefore nothing to uncage. Quote
builder206 Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Classic Seattle, Tacoma, or Everett Branch Mounties! Â Everett goes to Baker. Â Beginning this year Seattle limits the enrollment to +/- 100 split into 8 or 9 small groups. No more giant Seattle Mountie crowds, although a "small group" of 12 plus instructors is certainly crowd-ish. If that photo was taken this year, it wasn't Seattle Mounties. Â FYI the Seattle groups finished their snow & ice stuff weeks ago. Â 1st step in uncaging the soul is to quit the farkin' Mounties. Quote

G-spotter Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 It looks like one of those shots from the Alps or Fuji with a line of 100 climbers gunning it for the top! Â Alpine Style! Fast and Light! Take a Number Please! (and it's no coincidence that number means More Numb) Quote

Dude, so you're gonna be there this weekend? You riding in the truck? Be there this weekend, yes. Riding in the truck, no. Family obligations on Saturday morning will prevent departure prior to noon. See you later in the day. Quote
