From the "Policeman's Benificiary" or something like that. The guy on the phone informed me that a policeman in my area had recently been killed in action, and if I could please give the fund some money. I told the guy that I have a specific criteria and method I use for my charitible donations, and that if I could donate to their fund through that, I'd be happy to. That guy gets really irritated, and says "WELL HOW ABOUT JUST $10??". I thanked him for his time and hung up.

Does this mean I'm gonna get a visit from the police pretty soon?

Most likely he is a professional fundraiser and the police will never even know about it. The police (and other organizations) are offered a low percentage of the donation for doing nothing and just authorizing it. If you really want to annoy them, ask how much of your donation is going to the police.

I've had a similar experience. The guy got all pissed at me for not wanting to donate so I hung up on the bastard. I am still ok. Do these guys get loaded and pick up the white pages when they do this?

I hate getting calls for donations. But what really bothers me is that everytime I make a donation to one group, my address is sold to a zillion other groups and my mailbox is full of requests. I actually go through most of them, but I sure wish they'd have an "Opt out" box somewhere easy to see and mark.

i thought the city or state or county contributed heavily to an life insurance policy for people with this kind of risky job. I know i have the option to increase the amount of my pay that goes to my company provided life insurance policy. it is sad when someone falls in the line of dutey, but it seems to me that the needs of the family should have been thought of long befor any kind of event like this.

I'm sorry to say that while in high school I was desperate for a job.....so I could buy pot. I ended up taking a job selling carpet cleaning over the phone. It only took 2 or 3 days but I got fired. They were keeping tabs on how many phone calls I made, but I was very embarrassed to be calling random people trying to push some product that I knew nothing about so I would slack off in the office.

The sales boss gives you a list of names and numbers and you start at the top and work towards the bottom. (no pun intended :/ )

Tell 'im, in the first place, if not for your ilk's criminal activities, none of 'em would have jobs.

that may be true but that is not what i was saying. I was asking an honest question. Police officers families should be provided for with out anyone having to cold call for donations.

why is it when some civil servant, ie police officer or fireman ect dies in the line of duty's everyone gets all up and up about thier family, and why are they more important than say the average joe who bangs nails for a living's family suport. i mean come on they choose thier job, no one said hey you have to be a policeman, or whomever, they get paid pretty dam well, or atleast a resonable wage that they can live on and suport a family with. im sure they have the opertunity to buy into life insurance, and i bet they do get really good coverage from the empolyer for such a thing. what makes them an exception to the rule, we all pay thier wages anyway through taxes, shouldn't every person who dies on the job have thier families suported?

A hell of a lot more loggers than policemen die on the job every year in Bc anyways. But no one ever calls me to donate to a save the loggers fund. Maybe it's because the police are saving me from criminals and the loggers are merely providing me with the raw material for toilet paper and Kleenex?
