The Sultan-to-Monroe Megacluster is definitely bad news. Seems like a perfect candidate for a bypass-route, but then perhaps there'd just be that much more traffic and fatalities on Highway 2 unless there were significant improvements made to the portion of the highway that traverses the pass.

we could fund a special "climbers trail" highway made especially for climbers. You wouldn't be allowed to drive on it unless you were in a suburu wagon.

The business's want you to grow weary and stop on by for a nice slice of American pie

I am constantly amazed at how maligned these small businesses are anytime the issue of traffic on HWY 2 comes up.

What I wonder is why can't they just use that extra space South of the hwy in Sultan to put in an extra lane. Two lanes through those stoplights would allow double the cars to get through each cycle. Be more like Monroe. Monroe may be bad, but you don't see traffic backed up 20 miles from it like you do in Sultan.

Or at least not usually. CJ if you got caught in 20 miles of backups though Monroe, this [click me] is for you.

How is this maligning the businesses?

that whole area should be paved over by a mega highway and the citizenry deported to Tacoma.

You have not heard where this argument goes?

If any of them have made any effort whatsoever to obstruct or oppose a more efficient highway or bypass on the grounds that it will deprive them of business they deserve to be maligned, and I'd make it a point never to patronize any of them with owners that said as much in public.

If they have businesses that can only survive with the help of congestion, they deserve to go under, and fast.

A long time Washington resident was telling me that this is indeed the case. Efforts that have been made in the past to widen Hwy were opposed by businesses in Sultan, etc, on the ground that they would go under. Personally, I think that's bunk. I'd stop at the Sultan Bakery on my way up to Stevens irrespective of whether I parked out front, or a block or two down a side-street, or whether I was slowed down due to congestion.
