KaskadskyjKozak Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Astronauts wait their whole career for a chance to fly to space. Many never even get assigned to a mission. How hard is it to forgo drinking the night before that once-in-a-lifetime chance? WTF? Quote
TREETOAD Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 I guess it's not as hard as they pretend it is Quote

lI1|1! Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 who cares they're just trained monkies pushing a button i'm sure they can do it drunk. Quote
No. 13 Baby Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Idiots, puffing the chronic would be much better than booze on a space flight. Quote
billcoe Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 If you ever read the great Tom Wolfe book which you used for the title of yer thread "The Right Stuff", instead of watching a stupid, piss poor yet incorrect PC, F*ed up, watered down version of the movie, I'm sure you will figure this shit out on your own. Get the book. Read it twice. Question answered. In spades. Not kidding. You will get your question answered, learn about the roots of popular culture and what is really important. Basically, you get everything except a reach-around happy finish. The book. Read twice. Good luck Bill Quote

LOL. Being a space geek, that's one of my fave books, and even the movie is one of my faves, having seen it dozens of times. I found it amusing when this story broke, and the CNN headline said something like "Astronauts Don't Show the Right Stuff". Made me chuckle, because actually, drinking extensively prior to flight (and at lots of other times), is EXACTLY in keeping with the tradition of The Right Stuff... Quote
G-spotter Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 its a lot easier to drink when gravity is there to keep it in the glass for you Quote
chucK Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Couldn't you drink beer by just pouring it out and carefully sucking on a big floating bubble of beer... ohhoho yeah! Quote
bstach Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Couldn't you drink beer by just pouring it out and carefully sucking on a big floating bubble of beer... Pouring requires gravity. Quote

AlpineK Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 I've heard the same thing said about pot. I'm in space and I'm stoned. You guy's should come up to the space station we're going to have a raging party. Quote

For me, the book is on the top 100 best of all time. The movie, to me, did not make that exact point Wolf was aiming at, in fact, it seems to show the reverse. To anyone who likes to read, defiantly read the right stuff before you open the last Harry Potter book: my opinion anyway. Quote
