And so....

Faced with an accelerating inflation rate and shortages of basic foods like beef, chicken and milk, President Hugo Chávez has threatened to jail grocery store owners and nationalize their businesses if they violate the country’s expanding price controls.

...Inflation climbed to an annual rate of 18.4 percent a year in January, the highest in Latin America and far above the official target of 10 to 12 percent...

basic staples like black beans and desirable cuts of beef like sirloin are often absent. Customers, even those in the government’s own Mercal chain of subsidized grocery stores, are left with choices like pork neck bones, rabbit and unusual cuts of lamb.

The enlightened ones and the successful debaters amongst us will no doubt be consider this due to some behind the scenes sabotage by the imperialist US..... One wonders how many epi-cycles they will devise before they understand the obvious.

They held the line for 72 years in the face of far more grim news from the Soviet Block and China, and have yet to concede the obvious with regards to Cuba, so conjuring up the apologetics for Hugo et al shouldn't provide them with very much in the way of a moral or intellectual challenge.

hey--it's a flow chart it must be real. should be interesting to watch hugo over the next few years. if he can, even temporarily, improve the perception of conditions by those with less he'll entrench himself for decades. with any luck, he'll collapse under the weight of his own programs and be gone.

Your posts might generate more traffic if the opposing point of view you frequently try to bait actually existed on this forum. Price controls lead to inflation? Revolutionary!

Could you elaborate on the manner in which, in your view, price controls cause inflation?
