Chad_A
Either he was moving fast, and rammed himself into a chunk of wood, or a chunk of wood ran into him. Looks like he's going to lose his left leg, and maybe something else important...

NTM
The story I got with the pic was that the guy was driving his speedboat ~70mph (drunk of course), somehow the boat stopped and he went flying, only to be impaled by the log. He did survive though since the log was so tightly wedged, he had little to no bleeding.

jordop
Speed boats make the best accidents. When I was a kid vacationing at an Okanagan Lake, this guy got wasted and went water skiing. He came in to the marina WAAAYY too fast and went right alongside the side of a boat at waist height. Basically cut him in half. Ambulance was 40 mins away, and the only reason he survived was that 1/2 the vacationers were surgeons Now has a scar from his bellybutton to his spine
G-spotter
And then there was this water bomber that accidentally sucked up a scuba diver and dropped him on a forest fire, right?

catbirdseat
There was a TV program about bizarre accidents in which there was a story about a guy who drove his pickup truck into a partially opened gate. The gate was made of heavy steel pipe, about 2 inches in diameter. The pipe penetrated the grill of the truck, passed through the firewall, through the driver's belly and the seat, before the truck came to a stop. Â The man was fully conscious, but could do nothing but sit and wait as he was alone. Fortunately for him, someone came along soon after. They thought about using a cutting torch to get him out but someone realized that metal conducts heat and that maybe it wouldn't be such a good idea. They finally used a gas-powered saw to cut off the pipe. He was sent to the ER with the pipe sticking out of him. They fixed him up, and he made a full recovery. catbirdseat
No doubt it is stressful, but some people just seem to thrive on the occasional burst of adrenalin they get doing that work.
