layton Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Well so far my summer has sucked, 3 major failures + moving + visiting the GF's parents in Missouri for 3 weeks. So along the way (of course we drove) I had a slight detour in the Winds. Not knowing that the GF is more hardcore than a vast majority of my sniveling, bailing, whining climbing parters, I was blown away by her ability to not only climb very well, but to know her shit after 5 years since her last climb with outward bound. She didn't belive me when I told her this tidbit, but then again, she hasn't climbed with any of my partners. Not that this place really needs any more visitors, fuck it, here's a photo onslaught: Quote
G-spotter Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Nice shot of you GOATSEing those goats but you'll need to drop your pants to get them interested. Quote
bwrts Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 is some of the photos in the temple area or were you only in the cirque.. can't beat the approach trail to the cirque tho... but that road...i gots a few tails about the dirt road. thanks for the photos. love the wind. Quote
JoshK Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Very very very cool. Those are great pictures - looks like an amazing place! Quote
mountainmatt Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Nice pics! Looks like some nice stuff up there! How remote are those walls? Quote
Dechristo Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 That stop in the Cirque should've been a balm for your blues. And imagine, that's just one area on the south end of an extensive range. Nice photos. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Mmmmmmm....Looks like next summers climbing plans are making themselves Nice pics Quote
layton Posted July 31, 2006 Author Posted July 31, 2006 "Screw the Cascades," was pretty much the 1st thing that crossed my mind after about twenty minutes into the approach. Yeah, they are all from the Cirque in the S. range. Walls and ridges of granite EVERYWHERE. Those bigger climbs I posted pics of are actually closer than stuff like wolf's head and Pingora. Very EZ approach. 14 hour drive from PDX, 3-5 hours hike in. Pretty much the only downside to the joint is the mosquitos and thunderstorms. We only brought a tarp, so we had a nice 5am wake up each morning with a buzzing alarm going off in the ear hole. Quote
DirtyHarry Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Only 14 hours of driving? I should just pop over for a short after work sesh. Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 even muthafukin livestock aren't interested in what you have to offer oh and nice pics Quote
olyclimber Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 sweet pictures! how did you photoshop that girl into the pics? it looks totally realistic. Quote
gosolo Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 SCHA-WINGGGGGGGGGGG! dude, you shouldnt talk thataway about someones woman, or the goats in the first pic, or mike bending over! But if its all that rock you are excited about, check out the big stone in the Winds (N.Face of Mt. Hooker). Nice pics BTW Mike... Quote
layton Posted August 1, 2006 Author Posted August 1, 2006 Those goats are from Horseshoe Ranch in Arkansas's premier climbing/bouldering area. Mid July is an UNRECCOMENDED time to go there, although the goats are in season. Quote
Kat_Roslyn Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Nice Mike & I! that place looks great!!! Are goats really out of season, what do you recommend for seasoning, or are they just more prime in springitime? Inquiring minds need to know. Quote
