jkeller Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Trader Joe's Bavarian Hefeweizen! It is the closest thing to the real stuff you get in Germany and Austria that I have found stateside. My Dad brought me some and said "You gotta try this." I almost cried. Bananas! Cloves! It is the real deal. Best of all it is like $4.99 a sixpack! Too bad the nearest TJs is 2 hours away... Quote
Kitergal Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 ok. and what-ever that beer is, that they call the "climbers beer" in the bar two doors down from Second Ascent in Ballard. That shiznit is the BOMB!! btw...two page bottoms in a row for me!! That's cool huh? Am I a part of the cool kids club yet?? Quote
Dechristo Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 It's an anti-alcohol phrase older than this nation. And the title of a good music album older than you; good stuff. Quote
Double_E Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 one of my all-time faves.. as they say: "Gratefully dedicated to the Rogue in each of us" funny.. a few years ago I had a brief fling with this one goth-type girl... one thing (one of the few things) we had in common was our love of DG Ale. When I pointed out the Grateful Dead reference, she was like "...ewwww!!!! OMG why did you have to tell me this?!? I'll never be able to think about this beer the same way! lame!!!" Quote
knelson Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 What was that really dark winter beer that Widmer did a while back? Probably around 1996-97? I cruised their website but couldn't find mention of it. Now that I think of it, that beer was damn orgasmic. Quote
chucK Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 Pike's Place IPA! Lately this has been missing from every store in which I look. Only the poor substitute bastard cousin, Kilt Lifter, is stocked lately. I want my Pike's IPA Quote
Kitergal Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 Apricot Ale!! YUMMMY!!! It's like candy! Quote
espirita Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 Karlovacko - made me LIKE beer, not just tolerate its existence Quote
Dr_Crash Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 (Not NW.) I like Mirror Pond and Full Sail beers a lot. drC Quote
dkemp Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 What is your favorite northwest beer??? My favorite is my own Easton Amber. Er, each batch comes out a little different but nary a complaint. Supplies are limited until November. Since we're talking about beer, somebody ask me how my trip to Belgium went (I just returned Saturday). Quote

dkemp Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 It was FREAKIN' AWESOME, thanks for asking. My fave, And my second fave, So, we're in Ghent in the main marketplace. We sit at this outside cafe for a beer. The waiter, who I think owns the place - we called him Chucky - promptly seats us and gets me a Westmalle Dubbel - excellent. Cynthia and I play a game of cribbage - the laurels of victory were mine - and my beer runs dry. Now Chucky is sittin' with his buddies, drinkin' beer and smokin' cigarettes. Cynthia and I play another game, but no more beer, I'm dyin' of thirst over here all the while Chucky is partyin' with his homies. Almost like "island time" there. You'll get yer beer when they're good 'n ready. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 You'll get yer beer when they're good 'n ready. or when you stop being a wuss and ask for it. Quote
dkemp Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 Yeah, true, they dont do that 'check back' thing. I did have to go ask. Guess thats the way they do it. Boy they have good beer there. I liked the Rochefort Trappist also - real good stuff. We went to Rochefort and went for a hike to find the abbey. We stayed on route the whole way but somehow missed the abbey - bummer. Nice countryside but I wanted to see the place. We were close - we saw a cross and some other clues - but no cigar. Quote

Guess thats the way they do it. pretty much. if you haven't already, check out brouwer's cafe in fremont. they don't have my favorite (floris appel witbier), and they haven't managed to make a real belgian frite (though they've gotten closer than anywhere else i've tried around here) ... they do have a lot of belgian beers. i recommend the duchese de bourgogne ... yum! Squid Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 Hey Oly- What was that beer you ordered at the Stumbling Monk a while back? I remember the flavor, but I've forgotten the name. Quote
olyclimber Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 Those brain cells are long gone. I can't recall at all. Currently I've been drinking either Mannys or Vashon along with what ever is in the fridge. Quote
archenemy Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 Hey Oly- What was that beer you ordered at the Stumbling Monk a while back? I remember the flavor, but I've forgotten the name. Are you talking about their Belgium Cream brew? Really dark, full, but not bitter? That place is great! Quote
olyclimber Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 oh...it was in there after all. the beer was a "Belgian style" that they brewed. Very high alchohol content...like 9% or something...but alot of the beers do. Quote
