knotzen Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I was telling my grandfather about my upcoming climb, explaining the difference between "hiking" and "climbing" for the 52nd time, and he asked, "What do you do when you reach the top? Just come back down again?" (Which he followed up with "The only way I'd "walk" up a mountain is with a gun in my hand [i.e., for hunting].") Well, I told him, we toss a football around, have a picnic, and then play a couple games of cards. Besides the obvious ( ), what crazy, interesting, quirky, unusual things have you done on the summit? Quote
olyclimber Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I like to have a seance and speak in tongues on the summit. That, and whip out my cellphone and call my mom and ask what's for dinner. Quote
Off_White Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Played a few rounds of hackey sack (hey-- it was the 80's) on top of Castleton Tower with three other folks. When the sack (inevitably) rolled off the edge, it landed on some guy finishing the Kor-Ingalls, who politely returned it. Summit photos with assorted rubber chickens, inflatable dinosaurs, etc. I have a collection of many summit shots featuring a buddy playing air guitar with his ice axe. Mostly though, I remember just how many folks die on the descent rather than the climb, and give myself a good talking too. Quote
Ireneo_Funes Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 The ONLY reason to summit any peak is to call all your friends and ask them to guess where you are. Quote
specialed Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Rub Gu all over my naked body and run around squacking like a chicken. Quote
sobo Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I once did a headstand on the top of Rainier with a can of Rainier beer balanced on the bottom of one foot. Used the shot for the cover of my Christmas cards that year. Quote
olyclimber Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 When I reach the top I switch my Ipod playlist from Skinny Puppy and Rammstein to classical music and float back down. However, that anger and hate stays with me. Quote

Couloir Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Flossed my teeth. Now it's a glossy 8x10 in my dentist's office. The receptionist always seems to be VERY impressed. Quote

Thinker Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I like to brew up a cup of good coffee. My french press has been to the summit of Rainier with me almost every time. Sometimes it's just too nasty to break out the stove, other times it's the perfect 'pick me up'. Quote
Stefan Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I kiss the top of every summit. My climbing partners know this. One time they reached the top just before me and they all pissed on the actual summit rock. Quote
bobbyperu Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 hopefully or ...if im solo and the weather's good, get naked, let the boss out to have a look-see at all the beauty ...then i dunno, get all "peaked" and prolly rub one out, you know, the usual Quote
minx Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 then i dunno, get all "peaked" and prolly rub one out, you know, the usual i'm not sure i want to touch/sit/be on the summit after bobbyperu's been there! Quote
Thinker Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Yikes...maybe Bobby and Stefan should summit together sometime. Quote
bobbyperu Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 don't worry...i'm tactful, i kinda like to sent the troops off some sort of precipice if possible...not really a marking the summit sorta thing for me, so not to worry stephan Quote
Thinker Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 What do I do on top? It depends on how large her breasts are, how bad her feet smell, how smooth the landing strip is, how buck her teeth are, and numerous other factors. I prefer the 'Six Flags Over Texas' approach. love those glissades....... Quote
