Kitergal Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Check out the latest Outside magazine....Girlz rule!! http://outside.away.com/outside/features/women-rock-climbers.html Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Funny, though, that they picked mostly no-name trad chix of questionable hotness, when there's a bumper crop of bolt-clipping babes to choose from. Poor show, Outside! Quote
faster_than_you Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 on the whole thing. Of course, the woman on the cover is beautiful. Quote
slothrop Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Yeah, like wow, girlz can climb, too! That's just so amazing and special, considering women are otherwise incapable of anything! Â In other words, what's so special about women climbers? Women have proved themselves capable of climbing well for as long as climbing's been around. This kind of sentiment reminds me of someone saying "He's so articulate!" about a black man. Quote
Bogen Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Hmm, no-one perusing this site would get the impression that this is a male dominated sport... Â There are probably alot of women who will be inspired by this article, and rightly so. Outside magazine seems to have had alot of good stuff going on lately, maybe I'll actually buy one. Quote
AlpineK Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Oh come on you're smarter on that. The article isn't suppose to be either good or earth shattering. It's just an excuse to put pictures of hot chicks in the magazine. The goal is to boost the mags circulation. Â You ever heard of the Sports Illustrated Swim Suit issue. Â They need some body paint in there...and maybe a sheep or two. Quote
Duchess Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Inspirational?? Especially the part about the single girl surrounded incessantly by a harem of Yosemite dirtbag climbers... Â I might be alone on this, but that sounds more horrific than inspirational. Â Another observation. How often are articles written about male climbers, where the majority of the article is about their love lives, girlfriends, and ex-girlfriends? BORING. Quote
Bogen Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 There are an awful lot of cosmo-readers getting into climbing these days, y'all better get used to it! Â Anyway, I didn't actually read the thing, so if it does suck that bad, I retract my snarkiness. Quote
spicoli11 Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Slothrop chimes like a blind buddah.....props Quote

spicoli11 Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Ok....Ok ... this magazine is like reading PEOPLE in the grocery line. EXTREME sports are all hyped up right now. You knew who you where from the start. Quote

snugtop Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Dumb article. But it's Outside magazine...all the articles are dumb. Quote
DirtyHarry Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 That article was so suck. The cover with the hotty is enticing but when you open the mag to the article the pictures are just a bunch of girls standing around in Camp 4 in their puffies. Lame. Quote
Bogen Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Haha. I went to check the last few articles I read that lead me to think "outside" was doing better lately. Turns out it was "Explore" magazine I was thinking of. Quote

Winter Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Janet and Sarah would fly to Peru to attempt the first all-female ascent, via the 14-pitch Original Route, of La Esfinge (the Sphinx), a 17,470-foot granite wall in the Cordillera Blanca. Â Â That's rich. a 17,000 ft. wall - in only 14 pitches. That's a long rope. Quote

Did you expect them to be hanging out in bikinis?  Bikinis, at most.  No. I actually expected them to be you know, like climbing or something. In bikini tops, of course. Quote
minx Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 when do we get to quit having this conversation? it's not earth shattering that women climb. it's also not earth shattering that hot chicks sell magazines to men. again, not earth shattering info that more men climb than women. again not earth shattering that a climbing rag would want to target men. no one is stopping more women from climbing. Â it's a fluff piece to sell magazines. buy, read it, have a little brain candy fine. it's not a statement on equality. Â p'rana top? bikini top? not much difference is there, really? Quote
Billygoat Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Climbing is just like high school now, isn't it.... Â Quote
DirtyHarry Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Bikini tops are definitly different than Prana tops. Bikini tops, offering less coverage, are a little more trashy and risque than their prana top counterparts, and therefore are more preferable. From a male point of view, of course. Quote
minx Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Harry-- Â more of rhetorical question really. some of us need more support than a bikini top is going to provide and have noticed p'rana tops provide only minimally more coverage than our bikini tops. Quote
